Top 10 Party Games

Some viewers may find the following video disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. Hey everyone, welcome back to Board Games Unlocked and Brad and I are doing our top 10 party games, which is a list that I do not believe that we have done before. No. And if we have, I don't remember. So, party games are not really a big thing for me. I mean, I play them, but they're not like a game I games I search out usually. So, yeah, these ones, it's interesting because I know a lot of people are like, well, like there's party games where you have like a a large group of people or or like there's some where it's like a small gathering. And the way I defined party games was one, I went on Board Game Geek and looked up party. And two, it's just kind of like games that are meant to be in a like not necessarily beer and pretzels. Um, I don't know, just games that have a way lighter vibe to them. Now, I have a few on here that might have I think I actually only have like one one on here that has like a heavier rule set, but they're meant to be like a page of like rules. Yeah. Yeah, I would agree. Most of mine are I went for player count too like games that go up to like eight, you know, 10 players. Those that kind of con constitutes party game to me because it's and they're usually lighter, faster games, you know, over, you know, stuff like that. But yeah, like games that Yeah. nope. That pretty much nails it.
So, let's go ahead and jump right in and let's party with my honorable mention, which is an honorable mention mainly because it's actually the one I play the least. And I don't really know why. There's a section of this game that while it's the main focal point of it, it's still kind of odd to kind of explain to people. But my number 11 is the classic trivia. No, wits and wagers. Yeah. Um, Wits and Wagers is a super fun trivia game. And if you don't like trivia games, then I would still highly recommend that you check this out because unlike trivia games where it's like the person who happens to know the most [ __ ] random knowledge is going to win. And also with trivia where it's just like roll and hope you land on the piece you need. Uh, this one is a trivia game where you are actually wagering on the person you think is actually closest to the right answer without going over.
Um, so all the questions have to deal with numbers in some way. So a good example is how tall is the Eiffel Tower? And everyone bets that and then it gets put on this board where in kind of like a lower to higher ranking. So, it's like, and then the payout is how much you decide to put in. If you think, "Oh, Brad probably, I think he's been to Paris. Uh, you know, I'm gonna guess that he'll know how tall the Eiffel Tower is." And then you can put money in on that answer and then the payout just kind of comes out for that. You put in 100 um on a two for one, you get 200 back if it's correct. So again, the wagering is a little odd because you kind of have to do payouts, but it's super quick and it's a trivia game that everyone can participate in. It's not just like, well, I don't know a lot of stuff, so I guess I can't play. Not the case here. You can win without ever getting a single correct answer right now. You're never being bet on, but that's fine. You actually don't ever need yours to be bet on to to do well.
So, I this is a this is a very solid one. Um, my only issue with it is one, there's like a million different versions of it, but I wish they would just combine it all into one so you have like one big like section of of trivia. But, I mean, to be fair, I don't play all of these games a million times. So, I even if I got the same answer, you know, a few months later, I'd be like, I don't remember. like I don't remember how tall the Eiffel Tower is. Right. So that is my number 11. Widths and wagers. All right, good choice. Uh my number 11 is a game that um I haven't played for quite a while. I played it a lot back in the day. Um when I actually had a decent sized game group to play it with. Um because it is kind of group dependent.
That's another thing with a lot of these party games. Some of them are very group dependent as well. Oh, yeah. I'd say all of them, right? Yeah. This this one especially because this one this one would offend some people. Yeah. Oh, real quick. Um, how many crossovers do you think we'll have? Uh, three. Three. Yeah, I think I got I think I have a set one. Really? I think so. I think the party games that that because I because I play party games a lot more. These are actually the ones that I really like I'm like, "Huh, what do I want to do?" And I go to like I mean I've I've played these at like a hookah lounge. I've played them at at a bar. So I frequent those those places a little bit more than you. So yep, maybe.
But yeah, we'll see. I think I I think one Okay. So anyway, this one is cash and guns. Um, th this is a hilarious game to play. Like I said, it's very group dependent because everybody has a foam gun and there's a boss and then a bunch of criminals and you have uh cards. So, you have a card that's like a bang card. You have a click click card. Um, have you ever played this? Nope. Okay. Um but uh and then so you'll and then there's gonna be loot out in the middle of the table and the boss kind kind of controls the speed of the game because once everybody's got their card um down whether they chose bang or click click then the boss goes three two one and everybody points their gun at somebody and uh if the boss has the option if somebody's pointing a gun at him he can make them move it away from him. Um, so and that boss rotates. But, uh, so then everybody reveals their cards and if you played a bang card, the person you're aiming at takes a wound and then they're not able to pick the loot that round.
Uh, if you put a click click, then obviously they don't take a wound and then they're so you could have multiple people shooting at one person, you know, it just kind of it's totally a totally a backstabby kind of deal. Um, and oh, didn't they have to like paint the tips orange in this version? The first edition was all black and yeah, they they I second edition that has the orange tips. But but yeah, it's it's just stupid fun. I mean, it's it's one of those that you just kind of play through and everybody kind of points at everybody and you just kind of Yeah, it's it gets it gets loud when you're playing this game. It's it's a noisy game. I can see that. that I I would I'd play like higher stakes cashing guns. Everyone brings a real gun. Oh god. It's like you spin it.
Um but yeah, uh you play eight rounds and then whoever has the most diamonds and cash wins. That's pretty much the It's pretty much the deal. assuming there there's stuff in the middle that's money or like special powers like it looks like the Mona that's an extra bullet that you can play like cuz you only have a certain number of bullets in the in there and stuff. So, Gotcha. extra. God, I haven't heard about this game in forever. Yeah, I still have it in the basement. I just haven't played it for a long time because I haven't had a group to put it together. God. Yeah, this is what this is like an archaic game almost because I couldn't imagine seeing this like a con being played just because of the amount of I feel like people would get super buttth hurt. Well, there's one on my list that's the most buttth hurt party game you'll ever ever could. So, we'll get I'm excited.
Okay. Actually, speaking of getting buttth hurt, my number 10 has caused the most uh arguments out of any game that I have ever played. It has actually caused a couple to break up um and another couple to start fighting before like we like tempered it down. Uh I for party games I really like discussionbased games and this one is certainly no exception and that is Spectrum. So Spectrum is kind of like it's it's a strongly agree to strongly disagree style game. You are given a prompt and there's there's a couple um that's actually a great example. Um there's a couple phases of this game. The first the first phase is uh you put your answer like down as the judge. There's there's a judge to this game. So you put down your answer and then you as the judge are guessing where a majority of everyone else at the table is going to be. So in this example, it's okay to stay close to an X. If there's three other people, um not including the judge, the judge might look at the three people and be like, "You know what? I bet you most people are going to be strongly somewhat disagree and in the disagree area and you'll have a hand of cards that kind of will allow you to kind of play that. So after everyone puts their answers, you reveal the card that you played and if you're correct,
you get a certain number of points. The cards will have uh points on them. And then after that, everyone will then try and guess where you are as as the judge and where you line up so they can try and get extra points uh for guessing that. So, if I was the judge and it's okay to stay close to an ex, I'd probably sit at somewhat disagree. Um, and everyone at the table is discussing that they're trying to figure out, well, okay, well, you're still friends with this person and this person, so those are all exes, so I guess that must be fine. And it just allows for a wide range of discussion and there's a ton of different um packs. I guess not a ton. There's packs like where you can just kind of be very um Oh, like there's obviously a not safe for work one. There's just a general like just like normal kind of deck and the the story that I have for this game is I was playing it. It was two couples and it was a new couple that we were playing it with and one of the prompts was um I'd be okay with an open relationship and she was strongly agree and he was strongly disagree. Oh boy.
I was like oh needless to say they broke up shortly after. um just like just different different views. And it's it's just so funny that because these prompts, if you're answering truthfully, allow you to, you know, realize where people lie on certain topics. Um, but it's I just like that also different categories like I have another I have a drinking game that does kind of the same thing where you just have different categories that are themed and this one just really works. Um, so yeah, it's my it's my number 10. If you like discussion based games, if Right. If my story of a couple breaking up because of this game doesn't work for you, well, then don't play it. Right.
Exactly. That one sounds interesting. I have to give that a try. Um, all right. My number 10 is a game I another one again that I haven't played for a while, but we played the crap out of this when my daughters were still living with us. um because this was one of their favorite games to play as a family and uh you can play this with a large number of people as well. You're just in teams of two. Um and it is concept nice. This one was interesting because and also as as you'll see with several party games, there really is no winners in these games. I mean there's rule sets to win, but most of these games you just play until you're tired of playing it. That's going to be a, you know, it's going to happen with a lot of these kind of games, but in this game in particular, you work in a group, a team, and somebody's going to try to they're going to have like a a word or a phrase of some sort that you're going to try to um have your partner guess. But you can only you can only give clues by placing certain pawns on icons that you really have to dig in and think hard on this because um you can have emphasis on something, you know, and uh and so you're putting these things down like, you know, at the top left there's the male female. So you could say, you know, if it was a guy, an
actor, you know, Tom Cruz or something, you'd put like something like there, and then you start trying to find other ways to get them to to guess that. Um, and it's just one of those it's just it's a really thoughtprovoking game because there's you're limited to what's on that board as far as stuff. And some of those phrases get pretty convoluted when you trying to get people to get stuff. Yeah. Yeah. So, um, we have our first crossover. This is actually my number nine. Oh, it is. Okay. Well, I'll just go ahead and find number nine then. Yeah. So, I was just going to talk about it with you. Um, you know what's actually very interesting is cuz the team rules for this game are weird. Yeah. Uh, I actually, and I I'm sure I'm not the first person to come up with this, but I created my own way of uh, playing this two-player, and it's kind of like a um, you have a certain number of cards, kind of like how Oh, there's another game where, well, actually, I'll probably talk about it later, but it's like, hey, like you have 10 cards and you're trying to do the best out of 10 in a two-player game. Cuz normally, yeah, you need teams to do this. Um, but like it's like, oh, if you have 10 or 20 cards, then each person is going to get 10 turns. So, that's how I've been playing this recently. But you're right. Some of these I'm like looking at this picture and I'm trying to even come close to a guess and it's like I have no idea. Clearly, it's a male author and is in a movie. Maybe
could be a biopic. Yeah, but it's like the male is Okay. Well, it's a superhero. And there's black and white colors or Yeah. Because the way it works is you have like the main concept which is the green question mark and then you have subcategory. So it's like okay movie or TV show and then like Brad was saying the red exclamation point is on the mail and all the cubes of that color relate to that you know subclass or that main concept. So, it's like like right now they have it to where it's like a male and then it's a superhero about conflict but then black and white. Schindler's List is like my only guess actually. No, cuz he was real. It was a real person. Never mind. Cuz I was like, "Oh, maybe black and white film but black and white character." Well, and this like if you look at the bottom bottom left, they've got head and torso marked. Oh, maybe a Who in the hell is this? I don't know. I know. I know. I wish the card was there so I could be like because man. Yeah, it's probably just somebody who's like, "Let's take a picture of the game. Let's throw some drop the cubes." Yeah, it's I mean, and you got to get real creative on some of them. Like it's And obviously when you're playing it makes the most sense to you. You're like, man, how are they not getting this?
Yeah. Right. Yeah. It's it's irritating because you're sitting there just like Yeah. It's like it's so [ __ ] obvious, but it's hard. I mean, let's I mean, you really sit and look, it's everything's so general. Um when you start getting into the basic stuff that you just don't know. And then, like I said, some of those phrases, they're not it's not just a actor name or whatever. Some of them are actually like a phrase that you're trying to do. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's uh it's brutal. But yeah, you you get you learn to be real creative with your clues. So yeah, I mean I agree. It's my it's my number nine as well. So there we are. All right. Good choice. All right. Good choice me.
So uh my number nine is probably my newest. Yeah, it's it's the newest game that I've played on this list. Um, and it's one that I've had quite a bit of blast a blast time playing with. Anyway, um, it's a dice version of a another game that came out a handful of years back. Um, and that is Longot, the dice game. This was on my short list. This is a good one. Yeah, this this one's pretty tight. Um, it's it takes Longot, which was a horse racing game, obviously. It was it seemed I had never played that one, but I heard people talk about it being like it was a long game and it was kind of just took forever. Yeah. And then you turn it into this dice game where you are um you know, you're buying horses, you're betting, you know, brings all this stuff into it. You're trying to influence movement of the horses throughout the the race. Um there's even special abilities on stuff. So it just kind of brings all that into it. And um there you you keep doing it actually.
Yeah. So you run through this tiny little board and once three horses finish then that's when you calculate all your money and stuff like that. It's it's just a it's just a simple little game and it plays up to seven. I believe seven or eight. Uh uh that's a good question. plays up to eight. Okay. So, um and it's just it's just kind of just some fun fun stuff. I mean, it's a quick game. It doesn't take very long. Yeah. And it works surprisingly with almost any number of players. Like, I've actually played this at three and it worked. Yeah. Um and I like I kind of the art's kind of kooky and neat a little bit, you know. Yeah.
Well, it's great because the way they've supported it is just through many many expansions. So, like many like just add more horses, add stadiums, and you just have one of each number horse. I mean, you could just you follow a set or shuffle them all together. And it's it's actually interesting because the number like right now that two lucky Mhm. gives you two money every time a two is rolled on the horse die. And you can actually pay to have that horse move anytime a certain number is rolled. Like right now it'll move on three, five, and eight. And you can actually change that to where it'll move on six and seven and increase your odds of having your horse uh actually finish because you get money if it's your horse that finishes. But there's just Yeah, there there's enough player interaction that it's not just roll die and see which horse finishes. So, I agree. Like this one this one is a lot of fun and just very like quick to get to the table. Yeah.
And it's a it's tiny box, you know? It just kind of just pops out and goes. Have you played Ready, Set, Bet? I have not yet. Chad has it and I have not played it yet to know. I know there's like a announcer person or whatever this exactly. So I I know Tom Vassel raves about that one, but I haven't had a chance to actually play it. Um that game to me sounds like again I just said I didn't play it, but it sounds like it lives or dies depending on the announcer. Yeah. Yeah, I would agree. So that's you can have like really high highs and really low lows. Um, but yeah, this one is just extremely solid. Good pick. My number eight, I had a choice between picking this one or another one, but I think this one is a little bit more involved and kind of adds an element of um tension to the game. Uh, this one was, for some reason, I believe was called the Deception Murder in Hong Kong killer when it came out, but I really think it it kind of kills another game, even though I still own both. So, my number eight is Obscurio. I haven't played this one.
Uh, have you played Mysterium? No. Okay. Well, um, Obscurio is basically a like kind of like that Dixit art style game where you have a person like a judge or a ghost or I don't remember what it is, the library in in this game. In Mysterium, it was a ghost that was killed, and it's trying to get people to figure out the person who person killed them, where it was at, and the the uh weapon. Here is you're trying to get people to guess different doors, and there's and you're trying to get them out the correct door by having this the weirdest art style. I love games with this art. Um, one because the art is always insanely creative, but two, it it leaves so much room for interpretation that you kind of go past the game and you're like, who is the person giving me the clue? If it's me, you know, hands up in the air, I don't I don't even know why I'm giving clues. Like, I suck. I suck at these games because I'm like, hm, maybe I am autistic because I just I'm like, this makes so much sense. They're gonna get it and then they don't read it the same way at all. But beyond that, you as a um as as the library person are given people different clues uh and different doors to try and get them to go out of.
And what's interesting about this one, unlike Mysterium, is there is a trader. So there is someone part of the group that is actually manipulating your options of cards that you can give as doors. So there's like a phase where everyone has their eyes closed and you have your selections and the trader actually gets to see what is available to give. So they can swap out things and be like, "Ooh, okay. I know you're trying to give a you're trying to give someone a blue card. Um I'm actually going to get rid of that one so that you have to try and give them something else that might have a hint of blue in it. But that blue one underwater that would be very obvious where I'm just going to actually get rid of and then you give out your clues to the players and then it's open discussion.
Like they all have to see what there is along with the traitor that is trying to lead them astray. and there's a certain number of time that everyone has to get out. So, if you like Mysterium, if you like Deception, Murder in Hong Kong, this one is a is a really really good blend of both. And I think it kind of I mean, it it definitely does what Mysterium does better. Um, Deception, Murder in Hong Kong, I think, is still a fantastic game. Um, but if you really just kind of want to combine both, this is a very solid one to jump into. So, and they didn't support it, which was weird because Mysterium had got like two expansions and this one, I mean, not that you necessarily need or like the only problem with these kinds of games is if you play with the exact same group and you play it a lot, you can kind of come with your own meta on what certain cards mean.
But I mean that's that's like really stretching on like yeah we play Obscurio pretty much five times a week. It's like what? Like it's like man you need to play some other games. But yeah, that's my number eight. Obscurio. All right. My number eight is a game that I just purchased this last year because I played a friend's copy when we were uh waiting for people show up for a bigger game. And it's a Dungeons and Dragons themed game. Um but each game Hords of Water Deep. That's not a hard but each game of this takes 10 minutes, maybe 15 at the most.
Um, and that is Dungeon Mayhem. I was going to say it's actually Dungeons and Dragons and it's the 10 minutes before the campaign falls apart. Have you ever played this? I have not. Okay. So, this is interesting because I have they have this they have another version and they have those like this big box version that you houses all the stuff. But there's all these different character decks. So, you choose a character. Um, you all start with 10 hit points and three cards. Everybody has their own deck. So, there's specialy cards and stuff in there. And, um, you're pretty much just trying to be the last one standing. So, um, on your turn, you'll draw a card and then play a card and then it goes around. So, it may be aerial damage and damage every table. It may be one big damage. It may do different stuff like that.
Um the uh if your hand ever draw you if your hand ever runs out on a turn then you can draw two more cards. There's symbols in the top corners of the cards that will tell you if you have shields or not. So like if you look at Fluffy there, he has the little shield symbols on the top left that you that will stay on the table in front of you because that'll block two hit points worth of damage coming your way. Okay. Um, but then if you look at for the most justice card, there's three swords. That means if you play that, that's three separate attacks going at whoever you choose. Um, and then there's all these different there's another deal that let you play another card. You can play two cards and there's just different abilities and each character has like three special cards in their deck that's just like just strictly for them, a superpower kind of thing. Okay. But um this plays with up to I think the max was um four, but you could go a lot bigger than that. Like this box was four, but when you have the monster box, you can play up to eight. Um and it's just just bonkers. Like the games take no time at all. Like yeah, like that card that that reference card next to the hit point thing, that's that's it. That's the rules. Okay. and and but you just pick a card, hit somebody or or shield pick and then it goes around the table around the table and the game's over in no time. We sat down when we played this that first time and it we played probably 10 games
of it and it was just like it's just so fast and just funny crap. The art's kind of weird. Um it looks like um like root style art. Well, kind of. I mean, it's I don't know. Like, it's just it's kind of a weird It says artist is Kyle Faren. I don't know who that is, but I don't know. But, uh, the art's kind of weird, but it's actual characters from some of the D&D stuff when you start looking at them. Okay. I don't know. Like, it is it is the same artist. Skull Crusher. Oh, it is the same artist. Mhm. Oh, interesting. All right. Well, there you go. So, but um but yeah, this one's just a nice easy It's super cheap and it's like 10 bucks to get the act this actual game and then if you buy the it's 20 bucks to get the bigger box that has the other four four more fact or characters and stuff in it. But Okay.
But yeah, I mean it is what it is, but this is just one of those really fast fun uh quick games. Sure. Yeah. But whenever you mentioned Dungeons and Dragons, I was like, "Oh, man. Is he going to is he talking about that beer drinking game?" The one. Have you seen the one where you actually move your your pint? Oh, I've seen it. Yeah. But Heroes of Barcadia, I think is what it's called. Man, I've Yeah. You want to talk about party game? Like I Man, I was looking at that and I was like, I just don't drink enough anymore. I can't ever see myself realistically playing that. Yeah. Yep. All right. My number seven uh is actually it's not a newer game. Actually, it might might be. I can't actually don't know when it came out.
It's one of the newest ones to me and it was one that I happened to see kind of actually on display at a local game uh store and I was like, "Oh, this sounds super fun." It's kind of the game about making your own inside jokes. um not necessarily jokes, but it's it's designed around making um yeah, inside comments with the group that you're playing with, and that is monikers. So, it looks so weird. Monikers, uh is basically a box of just a bunch of different prompts and and titles and and subjects and items and things like that.
um memes and culture references. And it is split up into teams, but they have it to where it could be fully cooperative. And what's fascinating about this game is you have three rounds of this game and you have a certain number of cards. And let's say it's me trying to give clues to you. Um in the first round, let's say I'm trying to make you guess baby Jesus. In the first round, I can describe anything. I can just I just cannot say the title. Um, and they even have on most of these cards, not with the not with the pictures, most of them have paragraphs. There's nothing stopping me from literally reading that entire paragraph, but you know, I give you whatever clue that I'm trying to get, you guess it, and it's like, great.
So, those cards will go off into a new pile. The ones you don't get, we move on. Then comes the second round. The second round, you can only use one word to describe it. So whenever it comes around to baby Jesus again, I give you one word and you have to hopefully remember what cards that you got correctly and then also what I could be referring to whenever I'm trying to describe baby Jesus. Then the remainder of those cards goes into the third round where you have to do charades or noises. So you can't use words to describe it. And what's fascinating about this game is that as you're playing, you're going to be coming up with in the- moment references that only make sense in that particular time. It has gone over so well every single time I play it. It's so much fun. There's so many different cards that like a lot of party games that I enjoy are going to be group dependent on how people use certain certain phrases.
Like what's going to mean something to someone else at that point in time and I mean like it shows in the picture there's a million cards and some of them are like super easy to get because they're all points at the bottom. Some of them are super easy to get, some are super hard, and it's just a great time. Like, I've actually never I've only really played this at as cooperative cuz the team thing is always kind of weird to me. And I just really like the the natural flow of this game that just becomes hilarious whenever you're playing. And it's it's kind of like your your group can be as runchy or as clean as you want to make it. So, it's not like trying to be vulgar or it's not trying to be like PC. It's just however your group wants to play, you're gonna play it that way and you're going to have inside jokes as you're playing and that is just super fun. So, there's a million different boxes. Uh, the only shitty thing about this one is that the storage is awful because it's like that base box is super full and they have like four smaller like boxes that are also full that don't really add any extra rules.
It's just more cards. So, it's like, man, I need to just get like one of those long like card holder things. Yeah. And then put it into that. But other than that, if you again just like kind of wacky, I mean really really this is a solid, you know, under the influence game. So I highly recommend it. My number seven, Monikers. All right, my number seven is our second crossover. Uh, well, you haven't played two of the four I've talked about, so Wits and Wagers. Yeah. Yep. This one was was a fun one. I kept hearing Bassel talk about how he did these big huge room full games of it at conventions and stuff. So, I picked up this version here with uh for my wife and kids and us to play. And it's just it's just stupid fun. I mean, it's you know, we we've never bought any other expansions. We haven't even played through all the cards that are in this deal, but it's Yeah, exactly. you know, it's it's just a good one to to, you know, because my I live with two brilliant people and I'm not one of those brilliant people. So, games like Trivial Pursuit and stuff like that are not games that I win very often, right? Yeah. Because you you you're like, "Okay, brilliant people. I'm
spending all my money on you." Right. So, yeah. So, so yeah, I mean it's there really isn't much more to say about it. I mean, we kind of talked about it. This is one of those kind of like the evergreen party games that will always be around, I think. Yeah. I mean, and that's the thing. That's the thing is they have they have different versions of this game, but they're I don't know if you can like combine them, wits and wagers, cuz they have a wag. I mean, it's just a question in your gambling. It's the same. It's the same premise all just different topics. There's even an after dark one. How many boners does this actress take in a year? How many boners? 54.
How' they get this data? Like this is I'm more fascinated by how they got the answer, right? Um yeah, after dark. That would be that would be interesting. Um, yeah. I guess there's no reason why you couldn't just buy all the other ones and hope that there isn't just a like repeat questions like this deluxe version isn't like all of them combined. I don't think it is. But yeah, because if a wits and wagers family, right? And then I don't know. But yeah, this one this one's super good. All right, that's two crossovers. Yeah, it is. I'm already wrong. The next one I think is going to be a crossover too. Nope. My number six. This is one of the ones that I had to pick up because some of my favorite party games are kind of like I guess word association games is what they're called. Um cuz I it's hard to describe.
It's like I don't like word games. Like I don't like Scrabble. Um but I love word association games which I guess is what this is called. And this one is probably I guess the second most complex on on my list. Uh and you kind of have to be in the mood to play it, but it's so much fun if you are in that mood. And that is so Clover. I I haven't tried this. I want to try it. Uh I think you would like it. It goes over very well if everyone is because if you're some of these games are like really good if you're drinking or you know if you're high but this one is not one of those games. Everyone kind of has to be in a goofy mindset still but willing to put some thought into it. So So Clover is going to go Can you go to the next picture? Makes Yeah, it makes it okay.
Vagina nut and door. Oh gosh. So great example. So this game has a ton of cards all having four words on them. And basically what you were doing is you just get four cards and you put them into your clover. And what you were doing is you were writing a word that you were trying to get everyone to associate with these two words. So cow and chameleon. They put animal. Wheel and Antarctica is snowball. Armor and plane is jet. And then nut and door is vagina. So this person was like, "Anyway, I'm tired of being clean." So what happens is whenever it's your turn, um, or not your turn, whenever it's everyone else's turn to guess your clues, you take your four cards and a random one from the deck and you shuffle them and you lay them out on the table and then you reveal it. So, all anyone gets are your four words and then they have the five cards that they're trying to figure out what pairing they think matches to the word. I can tell you right now, I would never guess nut and door. I'd probably pro do nut and sock.
Well, there's curtain down there, too. Yeah, exactly. So, that's how what people are going to do. But you kind of get process of elimination because let's say you put nut and curtain for vagina. Well then that means you're going to have charge as animal you know because charge would be over on the animal side. You're like well that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. But then you could put cow in charge and be like okay well I guess cows charge. They can animals charge you. So it's again discussion based as a group to try and figure out what you meant. And then you eventually lock in the four and the person who is the one who wrote the clues removes a certain number that are wrong and then people get another chance and whichever however many they get right you write on the back of of points and it's kind of it's a group score thing kind of like what I was talking about with my two-player variant of co uh concept. Same exact thing here where it's like, okay, after everyone has gone, we tally up the number of points, we look at the back of the rule book, and it's like, we got seven, right? And that's that's a whatever. It's try better or whatever. Um, yeah. I mean, these games are one so cheap, but they have basically infinite replay-ability just because you're the ones giving clues. There's I mean just on this four thing alone just any random orientation is going to give you a different word and the word that I would give would be
different than the word you would give. So this this game just has so many legs to it. But yeah that uh you know you know your your kid like scour the like oh this one's funny probably. Yeah, that's nut and curtain. That's that's amazing. So, yeah. So, Clover is just a blast to play. But if you're kind of again in that goofy, you know, laughy kind of mood, this one doesn't really fit that vibe. But if you're in a lighter mood, this one still goes over very, very well. Yeah. Yeah. Number six at some point. Yeah. I highly recommend picking it up. like it's it's it's so good. It's so Clover.
All right. Well, my number six is the one I think will be another crossover with us, but you haven't said it yet, so I don't know. Um, and this is one that people talked about a ton on online on podcasts and stuff like that as being kind of the party game of the year a few years ago. Um, and so I picked it up and it ended up being a hit with any group I play it with. Um, and that is F1. Um, nice. Actually, can you go back to two slides real quick? Two slides. Yeah. Okay, never mind. I thought Repos is the same company that did So Clover in just one I thought it was the same designer. It's not. Oh, okay. Repost has been on this list a few times because it it did a cash and guns too. Yeah, I think they did they do concept maybe. No, I don't remember. So, anyway, this game is again it's one of those uh word based games.
It's Yeah, you play it in a group where it did by the way. Okay, cool. uh where one person um is going to be the guesser and everybody else gets to see the the word and then they give a one-word clue on their little on their little uh whiteboards. Um and then the only thing the guesser gets to see is those clues. Any clues that are identical go away. But that's before I guess that that happens before the person looks. So if there's any identical ones, they go away. So you may only have one or clue to try to guess this word or two clues or whatever. But so you need to be if you're the one of the people write, you know, writing the the word, you need to try to be as uh I don't know what the word is. trying you're trying to be as I'm trying to be as unique as possible without being like so obscure that it's like okay even if my clue stays they're not going to get it you know. Yeah. So I I would have no clue like if I was see I'm trying to look at the card that they have here and I wouldn't even guess it. I mean I would probably say candy.
Yeah. But yeah but Den wouldn't have anything to do with that. But that's the thing is we're also we're looking at the clues with the card and we can't even figure it out. Like you as the guesser, you don't even get to see the card. So you're you're left I mean I'd say Christmas or magic. Yeah. So So anyway, and and that's that's kind of what this is. And it's one of those games this you know they say you know you play Oh, it can't say magic. 13 or 15 cards or whatever um is the deal. But we never do that. we just just keep going and just just because it's it's just I mean um and you know it's it's just one of those that'll always be around you know it's just a good one. Yeah. I've been able to teach and and play this game with like my mom and and her friends before and it goes over extremely well. Like the it's actually interesting because a lot of times with a with some games it's it's you want to be the judge. The fun part is being the judge. And in here, I actually find the fun part being the one who writes on the on the things because trying to come up with a clue and then everyone sees like your clue and then it's fun whenever your your teammates are like what the [ __ ] is that? Like what why would you put that?
And then like or like whenever you're playing and then people erase and there's like two clues left and it's like all right, good luck. Yeah, I wouldn't even get it. And I know the answer. Like it's I mean just the the idea of this is is so simple yet so brilliant. Like I'm not surprised that it won. Uh the Ker Spiel. Well, and it's actually a redo of a old game. Um is it really? It's uh Once Upon a Word or something like that. It it I saw it I saw it when I was looking up some stuff, but it says it was uh Yeah, originally it was called We Are the Word. Oh, okay. Uh but then Repost bought the rights in 2018 and nice. Yeah. So far, Repost has had Concept, so Clover, Cashing Guns, and just one. Y we probably could have just looked up repos and just done top 10 card games by them. Like yeah, it's not a bad deal to do with them because they're cheap to make and a lot of people buy them. Well, that's that's what I was Yeah, that's what I was saying about So Clover is like just one. It's like, man, I wish there were more cards. Why? Every card has five options on it and there's a deck of like 50. So again, even if you played this game nonstop, the clues you're giving, if I said if I because what what what happens is like the person who was a judge, they
take the card and they face it away from them and they say a number one through five. If I said one, everyone sees Grotto or Groto. I don't even know. I don't even know what that is. So it's like what clue can Yeah, I I think I might know. It's it's a den. There's one at the Playboy Mansion that they call it the Grotto. It's okay. Okay. That's kind of what I had in my head was something like that. So maybe it's Grotto is what they're trying to get here. But that's the thing is like the the one word that I'm going to come up with is going to be different. So it's just so group dependent which makes these kinds of party games the best in my opinion. So yep. Yeah, I agree. This one's fantastic. My number five is one that I actually had seen um on the Dice Towers list whenever they did their top 10 and I was like that's a game I need to get. Um weirdly difficult to get at that time and I actually saw it at a local game store and I was like I'm buying that right now. Um, and this is the most if you have like hyper sensitivity or get overwhelmed by multiple tasks at once uh very easily, this is definitely not the game for you.
This is a game literally about multitasking and it is called Stay Cool. Scorpion Mask is also another company that does uh party games really well. Um, but Stay Cool is called the multitasking game. Uh because that's exactly what you do. Again, might be easier to explain. Yeah. So, what happens is on your turn, you have a person to your left and a person to your right reading you different prompts. and the person who has the blue card, like you're kind of going down and the player's reading or going back and forth, but it's it's a constant um barrage of the same question until you answer it correctly. So, if someone's asking you a question on the blue card, you have to answer verbally.
And then if it's a person that's asking you with the red card, you have to answer with dice like with those lettered uh lettered dice. and they will the rules are they're supposed to keep going back and forth until you answer correctly and then they immediately go to the next one. And you're trying to go down as far as possible on each one to have a multiplier on um of your score, but it's also timed. So, one third person is flipping the timer. Um, and you have four four rounds of I think 30 seconds to be able to get. So that's round one. Round two is that now you're doing the same thing with the questions and stuff, but now you as the person answering, you have to call time.
So, in the first round, the person who is who they'll flip the timer for you. But now in the second round, you have to be keeping an eye on the timer and have to tell the person to flip it. And then you kind of do the same thing till time runs out. If you don't tell them to flip it in time, then your your round's over and you just score uh with what you got. And then the third round, the timer is hidden from you. So, you have to do all the multitasking while also trying to remember I'm out at the It's It sounds so chaotic and it 100% is. And it's really funny because your scores should get worse as the game goes on. And then after three rounds, everyone adds up their points and whoever has the highest wins. I think this one is so much fun.
like it's incredibly chaotic from the beginning and some of them are whenever you're answering like you'll answer the person who that you're supposed to answer with the dice. You'll answer them verbally and it's just how well you can compartmentalize everything and it's just insanely uh chaotic that I think matches a party style. Uh, and it's great because most of the time everyone's doing badly and some of them some of the questions you're getting are questions that you probably might not even know the answer to. So, you can pass on certain questions, but you actually lose out on time. Yeah, it's definitely I could see where some people might not like this one at all because you can just get completely overwhelmed and that might not be fun to be stressed for a party game, but every time I've played it, it's just been it's been a blast for a lot of people. So, the one thing about this game that I do think unlike just one or so Clover or anything like that, this one I think does need more cards.
And that's been the general consensus is like I wish there was more cards. And they've come out and said like that they want to. It's just hard to design for more cards. But I think another pack I think there's 50 of each. I think another pack of 50 to round it up would be would be a very like okay now we're good. So cuz unlike the other games like that I just mentioned this is not really player dependent. You have legitimate answers that you have to put. So if you if you go through the same blue card over and over, you're going to know the answer. So it's not going to be as challenging even with the added multitasking and stuff. Like yeah, theoretically maybe if you got the same blue card, you'll have a different red card that might throw things off, but yeah, it's more cards just to add more variety would make this game really, really shine. But all right, that's my number five. Stay cool.
My number five is a game that never gets talked about ever. Um, but it was the very first game I ever played with the Joplin group with the Chads and all those guys. It's the very first time I ever sat down and played with them. Um, and it kind of got me hooked into that group pretty good. It's a game from a party game from Smirk and Dagger Games. Um, and it is Oh, I bet I know what it is. Oh, never mind. I thought it was Cutthroat Caverns. Oh, no. No. That one's a little too convoluted, I think, for party game. The anniversary edition cleans it up, but yeah. No, I agree. This game is nuts. Like you What's up with all your your games about shooting people? I don't know. I guess you have two, but um just wait. No. Uh, this one is um one of those games where you're want to be the last person standing. The last person standing gets all the money. Um, and you play through it until uh the person that gets uh who when you get 24 points, you win all the gold. So, you play multiple rounds. But but what happens with this game is this could be I don't know how you'd say it like like this game everybody each round is trying to decide who's going to die. So one person's going to die each round at least, right?
But you cannot as a group, you have to find ways to communicate who you're going to kill without the person knowing that they're the one they're the target. Okay. So whether it's a glance, whether it's a flash of a card, whether it's a nod in your head or you have to be tricky. Yeah. Yeah. You have you have to be really tricky with this because um if everybody in the group you know who just needs to die this isn't game related everyone Philadelphia Eagles fans and I can only think of one person at the so so anyway so everybody's a color of that's their like their people.
Um but so you if if the whole group let's say they're all going after Emerald. So if if all those other six people pick Emerald, the Emerald dies, unless Emerald has picked up on the fact that he's possibly going to get shot and he has a um what do they call it? He has a uh um hold on a second. Got to look here for a second. Uh ambush card. Um okay. If they play ambush, then they don't die. All right. And that's this keeps going. So, so you have to be you have to be um kind of really sneaky about who you're trying to pick to kill. Um why does this game like if you really don't like a player in your game group? Well, right last and and isolate this dude.
This is the absolute most group dependent game on my list because of that reason. Like you have to, you know, have a good group to play this with that knows Yeah. there. But what also happens is if let's say five of those six chose emerald and the other one didn't get the hint and he picked somebody else. If you don't pick the one that's getting shot, you also die because you do team. So, so technically multiple people could die in a round. You know, if yeah, the majority picks Emerald and then there's two other people that pick somebody else, those other two people are going to die along with Emerald and then you're the last person standing. And you play through multiple rounds of that and it's just one of those fun. Tell me what do you It's sneaky. What's the dig in the middle? That's your gold. Oh, okay. Like there's points. So like you'll you'll get loot and then there's it could be multiple gold or one gold, you know?
It's like and once you get gold, you win the game. Okay. Um, but yeah, it's it is a uh it's a a hell of a fun game to play and just watching everybody trying to get their information passed without the the target knowing is is just crazy. And it's a it's a cool they call it a social collusion game. Interesting. Okay. Yeah. But it's it's it's a really fun one to play. And of course, the more the people the better with this one for sure. It goes up. It goes up to 10. So, it's okay. It's a solid one. I've never heard of this. It's interesting though because like the concept is kind of the same with this one and Cutthroat Caverns where it's like kind of like team team based, but yeah, one person is kind of like getting outed in this one and one person is getting the the points in the other one. So, yeah. No, it's a fun one.
Nice. All right. My number four is the most complex game that I have on this list. And that's kind of why it's not I mean I really really like this game. It might it might actually be a point or a placement or two higher, but in terms of a party game, this one is the hardest one to get people into. Um, and funny enough, it's the second Scorpion Mask game in a row. Uh, so my number four is Decrypto. So, like I mentioned, I love War Association games. Uh that this one is so unique in its in its design that I I I feel like I'm like horrible at this game because it's again team- based, which is again not something that's super on my radar because get it radar, you know, decryting. Anyway, um I because I just never have a consistent group to be able to split into two, but whenever I'm in a party setting, I can actually get these games played. So, how the crypto works is you have your four clues that are associated with a number and you are given you draw a card and it'll give you a three-digit code 2 31. Then as the person giving the clue to your team, you have to come up with a word or phrase. There's actually really
no no hard established rules on what you can give. I always do one word because that's usually the rule, but you can give a [ __ ] sonnet if you wanted to. Um, but the trick is that the words that you give have to be have to make sense to your partner, but also have to be vague and confusing enough to the other team. Because whenever I give my clues to you for 231 to try and guess you get you to guess that sequence of code because you'll write down 231 if you get it. you read out your clues to the opposing team and they will also try and guess your code. So, it's interesting because the first round you don't do that. You just kind of read the other things to your to the opponents, but you're eventually documenting the words that have been given from your opponent and you're kind of doing process of elimination of if someone's given a clue, then it's like, okay, what have they given before that matches the rest of this? It's so unique that I haven't played any game like this because instead of just being like, well, I can't like you mentioned with just one, it's like, well, I can't be so vague that they don't get it. It's like here you have to be kind of vague so your opponent doesn't get it, but your team because you can lose in two ways. If your if the opponent uh guesses your code twice,
um then they win. Or if your team doesn't guess your code twice, then you lose because you can't just be so vague that it's like, okay, like you're not getting any of my clues, so we're just having miscommunication, so we're not even getting the the correct code. Um, and if that if there's a tie, then you actually try and guess the opponent's words, which is something I I wish was actually just in the game, not as a tiebreaker, but like let's say um something happens where it's like, okay, we we got your we got your code twice, but uh we also um miscommunicated twice on our end. So now it's a tie cuz we won, but also lost. So now you try and guess the opponent's words from one to four and whoever gets the most correct wins. If that sounds confusing, that's as clean as I can actually make it. It makes sense when you are playing it, but like I said, this is not one that you're breaking out in a in a jovial, you know, laugh and drinking kind of party party setting because it it this one took about a game for me to finally get and then it's like, oh, like now now it makes sense, but it's it's just so different from the rest. Funny enough, they actually have like a large version. Like they have like a big XL version of this that might actually be for parties, but I don't have that version. So, yeah,
that's that's my number four to crypto. All right. Well, my number four is a game that um I I had trouble figuring out where I wanted to put it at on this list because I've had good and bad times with it, but more good than bad. So, that's why I went on ahead and did it this way because it takes some dice the game. Well, no, it takes some aspects of a game that I really like as well. They kind of pasted on a a Marvel theme on top of it, so it kind of, you know, it's it's a mass market game that you could you could buy at like Walmart and Target and stuff like that. Um, and that is Hillary. Oh, wow. Yeah. Okay. Have you played this one? I have not. Okay. I was trying to think of what game you were referencing. Yeah, this one is interesting because it brings in um there's a lot there's a lot of aspects of this, but pretty much what you're doing is everybody has a hero. Um, and you there will be a villain out each round and you're going to be playing cards with numbers on them to try to defeat the villain like kind of like the Battlestar Galactica voting system. That's kind of what I attribute it to because there's going there's going to be hydra operatives within the within the uh the good guys, the the Avengers heroes, but you don't know who it is. So, you're trying to sus out. It's a a deduction thing. So, think about Battlestar
Galactica where their Sylons kind of down messing with the votes and trying to, you know, cause damage to to stuff. The same thing goes with this. Um, you are um playing trying to just out there and every round there's a voting round. So depending on how things happen, um you'll vote to try to vote out a human or a superhero that you think is a hydraoperative. And you go through all that. You're ultimately working up to the red skull. That's the boss. Um the trick with this and the thing that the games that didn't go good with this was um because you don't have to vote. You don't you abstain from voting. You don't even have to vote on rounds.
But you almost have to because if you f have a group that doesn't want to pull the trigger and vote somebody out, then it almost becomes impossible to beat the red school if you get to him at the end. So you need to be voting people out um and stuff like that. So So that's kind of where that lies. There's special powers for each of the characters and different stuff. Um, and ultimately it just comes down to whether you can defeat Red Skull at the end or not is what it is. So you're if you're if you're an oper hydrooerative, you're trying to screw screw the the game, you know, and make it tough for the heroes at the end. And if you're the heroes, you're trying to keep up by taking out the villains and being able to hit the red skull when it gets to that time. Um, the production of this game was really cool. Uh it was pretty pretty good for a big box store game, you know. Yeah. And and uh it had unique art and stuff like that. So So it's it's definitely worth a try. I mean it the sweet spot I thought for this game I've played it at different uh different counts, but um it says five to eight. I almost think like around the sixish range is probably the best. Um because it doesn't take too doesn't go long, you know, you have you have your opportunity to do stuff. So, so if you do something like this and you are able to find it because I don't know
how widely available it is anymore, um six is about the count you want to shoot for. But okay, but yeah, I mean that's that's pretty much it. If you like that, if you like that Battlestar Galactica voting system or resistance, it's kind of what it makes me think of. Yeah. Yeah. So, anything like that that where that trader can screw with the voting and and the outcome of stuff, then this would be another one that you would enjoy. Okay, good deal. Yeah, like I haven't played this one, but like The Resistance was one of those that I ne it needed max players pretty much uh to actually really sing and that was never going to happen. So, I haven't played those games in quite some time. Um, okay. My my number three is the crossover, the only crossover that I thought we were going to have. Uh, and it's going to be the quintessential party game, honestly.
I mean, millions and millions of copies sold, different versions. I have two versions of this game. Um, one for multiple players and one for two. Uh, and that is Code Names. No. So, Code Names is at this point it's like almost a staple for a lot of people's um party games just because it fits in any setting whatsoever. Like this version like allows for multiple players, but it's also team based, but it works. Um, I mean, you can have four players and do 2v2. Uh, or you can do Code Names duet, which is the two-player version. Both of them are fantastic. Those are the two that I own. This, if you're not familiar with code names, you get a 5x5 uh square or grid of cards and your side, if you're the red side, have a certain number of clues that you're trying to give and then the other side is blue and they're trying to give their team the same amount of clues. Um, so what happens is you give to your partner a one-word clue and a number.
And that number is how many cards that you're that you have on your on your sheet that matches uh the oneword clue that you're giving. It is so much fun to try and figure out how you are trying to come up with commonality between these completely random words and also get it to where your opponent or not your opponent your uh partner gets that. So like if I'm looking at you know whatever these are plank mint and engine like I I don't know like like change in state like you're if if you had to get if three of those words were like blue and you were the blue team you're trying to be like okay what's the best possible clue that I can give and a number because you can't win if you I mean unless everyone else is just so had um like the other team, you can't just go, "Oh, car one." And then look at engine because a lot of times you're going to come up with a clue and your team is going to look at it and be like, "Uh, cuz is it this word?" And it might be a bystander. It might be the assassin because there's one word that will instantly cause you to lose. It's uh cuz you'll be looking at the 25 cards and just be like, "Okay, this is going to be awesome." and not see another card that is that perfectly matches your uh your clue that you
gave. It's so good. It's so good. It is It's easily one of the best designed party games. That's why millions of copies have sold. I haven't played pictures. I don't have an interest in playing pictures. Um like I said, I really like word association games, so this one just works. And if you don't have a group to play with, get Codenames Duet and it's just as good, if not better. Like I don't know. Codeames duet I really really like. Yeah. No, this is this is a really good one. So yeah, that's uh that's my number three. Code names. All right. My number three is the game I was talking about at the early that makes a lot of people mad if you decide if you're playing with the wrong group.
Okay. It has it it is uh in the community it is called racism or sexism the game. Um it is it is a game from cool mini or not back when that's when they were called and it is called unusual suspects. Oh I'm like it's literally called racism and sexism the nickname for it because it gets pretty crazy pretty quick with this one. This one runs up to 16 players. Um Okay. But um it's it is I've I've played this with a lot of groups that I know could handle it and it just goes over awesome with them. Pretty much what you're doing is one person you're going to lay out a grid. You're going to lay out a grid of Well, it's not a good grid. Okay, never mind. So, you're going to lay out a grid of these like mug shots. It's going to be like in a 3x4 grid. And if you look at these cards right here, there's a where the red symbol is, that's the person that's the criminal. So it could be whatever. So there's going to be a witness. And the witness is the only one that gets to see that. And so they know who's guilty.
Nobody else does. So all the others are called investigators. So there's going to be these cards like these with the question marks and it's going to be like this person likes to eat watermelon. I mean, they're really general like that. And um so then the the the group goes through and they start picking this person might like watermelon, this person doesn't like watermelon and why you know and then they start getting racial with it and stuff. It's it's pretty it's pretty. So then they'll finally they'll pick somebody and then you show them the correct or incorrect. If they guess somebody that's that is um or no they wait a second they they eliminate people. Sorry that they getting rid of is eliminating. So if it's do they like watermelon you ch you use the uh these cards. So witness would put down the green check mark if they enjoy watermelon. So then the people go through and they start eliminating people from that list. That's how it goes. So, you know, the blonde white lady might not like watermelon, right? I mean, it depending on what they say. So, they'll be like, I'm going to eliminate this one, this one, this, and they can put eliminate as many as they want. But if they eliminate the actual criminal, they lose. Okay. So, so they're trying to eliminate. And then after they they're good with that, then another clue comes out. This person, why is there a red hat in this picture? I don't know. This is a different version. This is like the old
feels. It feels like intentional placement maybe. But so anyway, then another question may come out saying this person is really good at basketball. So then you have the watermelon and the basketball clue. So then they can start getting you know where it it gets really bad really fast. I can imagine. So there's g I mean you can go the sexual route, the racial route, the sexist route. I mean it and it's and the game wasn't necessarily meant to go that way, but they kind of it it gets that way really fast. I mean, yeah, it almost seems like typ casting. Like I can't imagine a game like this like I mean cuz guess who's the same way? Like there's no like it's like does like if they're general uh uh oh stereotype prompts it's like I mean what are you supposed to do? I know. So, it's it came out 2015 before cancel culture, apparently. So, so anyway, but no, this uh this is one of those games that I always have in my collection. It's just a it's just a fun fun game to play with the right group of people. Um definitely make sure you know your group of people though because it could be it could get bad quickly. Um so, play a con with some random people. Exactly. So, so anyway, that's my number three. Unusual suspect.
Okay. My number two is our fourth crossover. Fourth. Yeah. Right. We had Wits and Wagers concept. Um, so is this just one? Oh, never mind. Never mind. Yep. Third crossover. Okay. Yep. My number two is just one. Uh, very difficult to not have it at number one. Um, I should have just put it there. I should have just put it at number one, but I didn't. Um, yeah. I I mean, everything that we talked about, it's one of the best to to get into a setting every like the rules are so simple. Um, like yeah, I mean I'm able to play this with like with my mom and and her friends in a party setting and just really just have it go over extremely well. Takes no time at all to teach. And the one thing I will say about this game that sucks are those markers. They're ass. They're so bad. Like so it's like buy buy your own dry race markers and and then you're golden.
But yeah, just one. I mean, there's a reason why it's so popular and yeah, like Yeah. I mean, not not really much else to say except it's fantastic. It's my number two. All right. My number two is a game that I've probably played more than any game on this list. Um because it's such a fast game. It's so such easy one to teach. Um, it plays well with a lot of I mean, it plays from three to eight. You can play it with three. It's funner the more you have, obviously, what most of these games are. Um, but it's a dice game version of a game that I didn't care for. Um, and that is Bang the Dice game. Look, your fourth game about shooting. I know. Um, so so yeah. Um, I've I played Bang a lot back in the day when I was first getting into the hobby. Um, and it the games just took forever. Such a long slog and it it was a card game, right? It was and it was just never ended and it was such a long thing. This game can be done in 15 minutes. You know, you you set it down, you pick, you know, you pass out the outlaw, the deputy, and the and the renegade cards. um the out the out the uh and the de the sheriff everybody knows who the sheriff is. So there's
always gonna be a sheriff and then if there's enough players then you have yourself a deputy who has to figure out you have no know you know the sheriff doesn't even know who the deputy is which is the one weird thing but um so there's deputy the outlaws they just die so quick that he just doesn't remember he's like oh are you the new one I I don't know I'm not gonna learn your name anymore. So, the outlaw wins if the sheriff dies. The um the renegade has the toughest part. He has to be the last man standing. He has to kill all the good guys and the bad guys. And the deputy and the sheriff win if they're the last people if they've killed all the outlaws and renegades. But you just roll the dice. You do it like yatsi style. Um and you have the bullet bullet like thing where that's for the card game. Oh, it is. Okay. Yeah. But anyway, so you you also have a character that has special ability and you so you roll these dice. Anytime you roll um the uh the arrow symbol, that's the Indian. So you have to take one of those ind those arrows from the center of the table and put it by your character. Once the last one's taken, however many arrows you have by you, you take that much damage.
So you have to watch out for that push your luck. Um and it's just this game is just outstanding. It it it's so easy to play, so easy to teach. There's an expansion for it that I don't have that brings in like if you die, you become like a ghost character and stuff like that, but Okay. Um, but yeah, this is just such a an awesome game um that you can play multiple times as you go through. And um now that I'm now that I'm talking about this game, I totally omitted a game off of this list that should have been my number one, but it's not. Oh, really? So, I'll have to talk about that in a second. But anyway, that's my number two. Bang the dice game. I have never played it. Some of those staple like party games I've I've never touched on. Like I said, I'm I'm never in like a group setting, especially nowadays. Like I feel like this I missed my window to play these because it's like I feel like in college that would have been great, right? Like I I had friends back then and time.
Uh all right. Do you have a guess on what my number one is? I don't have a clue because I would have guessed it was going to be ju just one or something like that. But I I don't know if you've played my number one. Um my number one is actually funny enough kind of popular on Tik Tok uh as well. At least some of the videos I've seen. Um I've mentioned that I love word association and I also love discussion base. And this game kind of does both of those with a very cool gimmicky wheel that you spin. And that is wavelength. No, I never played it. Wavelength is fantastic. So again, it's going to be easier. Um Yes. So in wavelength, again, it's it can be team based or it could be, you know, um cooperative, whichever way you kind of want to play it. But you have this wheel and you are given um two polar opposites on um on a prompt. So, you could be like, "What's what's hot and what's cold?" You know, something easy. And you you spin the wheel, like you cover it up, you spin the wheel, and then you reveal it. And then you have to give a clue that will get people to guess where on this wheel it might be.
That red thing in the middle with the with the stick can turn. And so, if this was like where it was at, I would have to come up with something that's not necessarily hot. Or if like if hot was on the left side and cold was on the right side, I have to come up with something that is slightly more leans more hot than it does cold. So I wouldn't put ice cream and I wouldn't put I wouldn't say lava, you know. So I could probably say the earth cuz of climate change. It's leaning way more hot now. Um but it's not boiling. But you just again it's up to the team. It's up to the players. And what's amazing is once everyone kind of locks in um you reveal it and you get a certain number of points if uh depending on where you're at. And the reason why I say this this is discussion based is because if someone gives their clue and it's like what like I have a perfect example. I think it was something like clean food and messy food or clean and messy and um like and he gave fish sticks as like as like a clue and it's like what like like and then we it got to the point where like he was the only one dying on that hill and his girlfriend walks in and I was like would you say fish stickicks are clean or messy? She's like I'd say messy. And I'm like thank you.
Like it's it was just so again you just have those discussions on why people think certain things are what they are and it's fun to be both the guessers as well as okay well this is the person who is the judge right now who gave the clue what could he think about certain things. Um, yeah, it's it's it's my favorite party game because it just encapsulates everything about party games that I enjoy. And what's actually super great if you don't want to get the physical copy, the app is also really, really good. So, it does pretty much the exact same thing and you can you might have more options honestly instead of the physical card limitation. So, last time I played this, I used the app and you can get it for free, but of course you can pay a few bucks to get more packs, but it uh that's also a very viable option. So, it could also be fun because you can create your own. Like you could you could do bad quarterback, good quarterback, and if bad is on the left and good quarterback is on the right, I mean Jaylen Herz maybe for this for this picture. He leans more bad. I'll agree with you. like he can be good, but he's he's he's pretty bad. What about dad?
Uh right now is very bad. Yeah, exactly. So, you can kind of create your own. Just you just have to come up with kind of polar opposites for prompts. Um and that makes it a little bit easier. Like this game makes creating your own stuff easier than some other games. So yeah, that's my that's my number one wavelength and production value is also really good. That wheel is very solid. All right, so I'm going to say this now because this Eggs and Empires should be my number one party game. Um, so if I would have put it on there, it would be my number one and then this one would everything would shuffle down one. didn't do it that way.
But I just want to give a plug for eggs and empires because that's my absolute favorite party game. That's That blows my mind that it's not on here. I forgot all about it. I don't know why. Why is it your favorite? It can't be your favorite. You forgot about it. I don't know cuz I think I put it on other I put it on another list and I don't know if I thought I put it on this one or something because we had all those list. Anyway, that should be my number one. This one should be my number two. But anyway, for right now, my number one is a game. This is my most complex game on this list. Um, I sadly don't own it anymore because it's way, way, way out of print and it was selling for stupid amount of money and I wasn't getting it played that much. So, I sold it and now I'll never find it again. Um, they they rethemed it into a game called Fangs uh a couple years ago, but it's not the same. Um, but this game is called Shadow Hunters from Zman.
This game is outstanding. And I don't know why I sold it. I don't know why, but um, pretty much what you're doing in this, this is another deduction game. Plays best with seven or eight players, but there's three factions in this game. There's the hunters, there's the shadows, and there's the neutrals. So you um your your identity is kept secret obviously. Um so no so depending on player count there's going to be a certain number of each of those factions in the game. Um the hunters will win if they kill the shadows. Shadows will win if they kill the hunters. And the neutrals have unique every one of them has a unique gamewinning ability. So it could be something as far as like hey if the person to your right wins you win too or okay stuff like that you know it's so it's it's in generalities.
So you have your board here and everybody all they do is you have a a color that you choose to start with and that little weird uh snake shape is hit points. So everybody starts wherever their hit point total would be. That's your first clue because different characters have different hit points. So if you're like the werewolf, there's there's two characters that have like 13 or 14 health. So oh, they're either the werewolf possibly or this other one, you know, you don't know. So in a series of actions, um there's those six cards that are around the the area and those are locations. So, a dice is rolled on your turn and you move to one of those locations. And what happens is you uh each location has a special ability. You may be able to pick up a white card down there at the bottom. So, that's like an item or something like a holy item. The the black cards are more evil stuff.
hermit cards. If you go to the hermit deal and you get a hermit card, that lets you get a clue about what that what a a person around the table is. And you can do that for trying to find out if it's your ally or if you can find out if they're a bad person. What's cool about this game though is um at any time in the game, you can decide to flip your identity card. Uh, and when you do, um, you have a super powerful one-time ability. Um, so like if you're the werewolf and you decide to flip it, you get counterattack, which is just a massive crashing counterattack that you can do. Um, and so you're just trying to fulfill your winning condition, whatever that may be, you know. And and what's cool is this version, the Zman version came with um there's because there's 10 characters in the in the base game, but then um there's 10 new characters in a little expansion that come with this version of the game, and it's got the same hit points and everything, but they change abilities and stuff like that. Okay. Um, and this game, I've had so much fun playing this game with people because you can pick up some of the items you pick up are like guns. So, you can like shoot people, you know, like ac like one card away. Your favorite your favorite thing to do, right? Right. More guns.
So, so, uh, so once you figure out or if you have a suspicion that, you know, somebody is somebody you're trying to take out, then you start shooting them or do damage to them or whatever. Um, this is just one of those games I'm surprised like the Fangs remake is just it's not good because it is just pretty much about it. It's just it's just strictly vampires and vampires and werewolves. This has like all kinds of crazy um deals. Oh, and you cannot lie in this game. So, like if like when a hermit if a hermit asks a question or whatever, you have to tell the truth except one one except for one of the neutral characters. There's one neutral character that his ability is you can lie. Gotcha. So, so like you can really throw some [ __ ] off if you happen to have that character.
Um, but yeah, this one's one. I wish I could find this version again, but it sells for like I feel like I've seen people It's like 200 bucks, 250 bucks to get it now. It's a [ __ ] Kickstarter game found payment now. I know, but And it's not that big of a box. It's just a small box really. And it's like I thought about getting Fangs, but then I watched the review on it and I'm like this is not the same game. So, this is worse. Yeah. And the art's really cool. It's that it's that kind of Asian uh weird kind of art style and stuff like that. Whatever that's whatever you'd call kind of weird stuff like that. But uh anyway, yeah, Shadow Hunters is my number one on this list would be my number two probably if I would have had my head out of my ass.
