UKGE 2020 Day 2 Review - Chaos Incarnate
Transcript
Welcome to B stupid. My name's Wayne.
I'm Matt.
And this is our day two round up of UK Games Expo 2026. If you didn't see day one, go check that out. Check the link somewhere around here. Day two, which is Saturday of the show, has been the busiest day. It often is historically. And it was the same. And it really felt like 20 years of UKG uh sort of ended up in this moment. It was really busy.
It was really busy. Uh certain parts felt like a mosh pit and uh that was good. It was good cuz it's uh it's
showing the growth of the show.
Yeah, it's amazing to see how the show every year is bringing more and more people. We met um a lot of you a lot of like a lot of people say like oh this was my first times coming to a lot of people first time not just even UKG to just do a ball game con. Uh it shows how these uh how the industry is booming how the um the hobby is becoming mainstream
still reaching new people.
Yeah.
And and we love it. It's it's not a bad thing. We're not doing gatekeeping. There should not be any gatekeeping gaming.
More people the better. It's a beautiful amazing incredible thing. 100%. But saying that,
the smell was
the smell was insane today. Very sweaty. Very very sweaty from day.
It was good. I would say that another good things was the the organization, everything was very well done. So well done to the to the guys at UKG. I know that the people done the um bringing by they had a lot of like way better feedback than in the past.
Last year it was frankly appalling. this year really good or at least must
at least what we if you if you had different experience let us know uh but it's uh it's great just like and um yeah and absolutely love to see you all guys coming in
but um our day
so let's start with the hashet stand typically at UK games expo have a massive stand one of the biggest stands uh and they do really well and they're always showing off some interesting stuff um let's start with uh Snake Charmer which is just over there. Snake Jamas.
So, this is their kind of bluffing/social deduction type blend of a game. Uh, this is cool. If you played cockroach poker, it's like that with a traitor element.
Yes, it's it's pretty cool.
It's pretty actually. We had a really good time with it.
And you know what? What the best thing is that all the cards glows in the dark.
It's glow in the dark, which is So, if you do want to play around a load of black light uh and try and explain
black lights in your house,
well, first
that's cool. Why Why do you have them? I am not really sure about it, but yeah, but he's actually pretty cool.
Super nice. Uh yeah, quite interesting. Do check that out. Plays up to uh six players, so quite cool.
Also showing off the expansion to Acropolis. I love Acropolis. I think it's a fantastic tile. Yeah, vertical tile lane. Really nice. This actually turns the game into a cooperative experience, which is very interesting.
That's what I want really want to see because we we love playing Acropolis. We're going to play cropolis at home with with
partners. Yeah.
Uh but this one making it co-op.
Yes.
Interesting.
Like it.
Apparently quite difficult. Love that.
So we'll tell you very soon. But the one I was really excited was super excited about.
It was the um new release from Super Meo. Uh that is for for the UK is
distributed by hash UK and uh it was demo only. But we might have
we stuck a copy away. Uh and it's mythologies. So uh really interesting tableau building game. A little bit of engine building going on there. So we were super excited about this game anyway. So uh I think this is in the hype factor maybe last month, but super fun. We are going to get this to the table
ASAP to give you uh give you our impressions of the game. So I'm three beers deep at this point. I'm very tired.
That's right. It's uh
Hey, you get what you pay for. 948. Uh, yeah,
it's all good. So, uh, so we talked about that. Let's talk. And the cool things was the the tag team. We actually have to see, we talked about it on the channel already. We show you guys the
Atherian Legends tag team expansion. Super cool.
We show you the preview package as we had a behind the scenes. We saw the actual uh final box.
It's a standalone expansion, by the way.
Yeah. The cool things is that you don't need to own the original tucked in. You can simply get this Arthurian Legends and still play the
tag team six character that are compatible with the with the original one. But if you just want to because you're interested more into the Arturion Legends, you can play tag team. Fair enough. It's a smaller box, smaller price. And then if you're happy to buy the other one or if you already got it,
which is I love where they've gone with that, doing like this modular expansions that are standalone. It's super cool. Now I can't wait for the next one. Yeah, it's got very much um our understanding speaking with the um guys of Scorpio Mask is
like dice throw like they gonna bring more characters. They're going to bring more and just build the game on on the basis.
I asked I asked again for a co-op or one versus all mode. We'll see. I keep asking for it. I think the game has the design scope to make it happen. I really want to see Ken and Ryu and
Blanch Street Fighter to see that.
Let us know what you want from tag team in future. Let us know in the comments. Um also, right, we got to speak to some amazing folks. Oh no, we got to demo Whisperwood. Again, legally distinct from and different from Whisper, last year's game. Different game. This is actually Cardboard Alchemy's big new game. Uh the same team that brought us uh Flamecraft, but also
Andromeda's Edge.
Andromeda's Edge. Yeah. Wellington,
but this um Whisperwood is more toward the Andromeda's edge like weight and
complexity and other stuff. Um
it wasn't really a demo.
No, it was more like a guided play through.
The game is so complex that it was very much like explaining what you can do during the game. So, you got these elements of the of the back building uh where you're going to take out tokens from the bag. You're gonna place it on your on your sorcerer on your droid, sorry. Um board and then you're gonna allocate it on your board and uh depending on where you putting your token, you can do this or that um spell.
Yes, exactly. Yeah.
Each spell will have will have um certain things you can do. For example, moving your character from one place to the map to the other, cleansing the
influencing the golems that will give you bonuses as well. moving animal, recalling animal,
summoning spirit guides, all sorts of things.
Going up trucks, uh multiplayer is is a is a more of a a complex game. Again, um if you loved um Andromeda's Edge is share the DNA. It's not the same game. It's not it's not the same, but it shares that kind of DNA. So, if you are in line with that kind of like type of games, again, this is going to come out in uh um uh crowdfunding very soon. So, uh, again, we'll talk about that in more in in the future, but, um, yeah, absolutely. It was really fun. Uh, we then had a chat, uh, to the team at Hasbro who are doing a little bit more in the hobby game space, specifically with their imprint, um, Avalon Hill, uh, who are doing really cool stuff. They did Santael and they've also done Market Fresh, but they've also done this game, which is done in collaboration with a couple of designers, uh, of which Eric Lang is one of them. So, the main designer is Frederick Rna, but Eric worked on this. And this is a game based on climbing. And I love that idea. I mean, climbing is cool as hell. We love bouldering. I love bouldering. Did you boulder in the past? You done any bouldering?
Um any climbing?
I think I I've done it like in Vietnam a few years ago. I'm not good at all.
Vietnam bouldering.
Yeah, I wasn't I wasn't good at all.
So, this basically um
not a massive amount of advertising into this game, but it is basically a brand new release. So, we're excited to get this to the table and let you know more about it. So, really, really cool stuff.
Yeah, this is going to be cool. And then,
oh, news on, by the way, same imprint or at least one of Hasbro's imprints. They're bringing us the new edition of Fury of Dracula, which more news on that
to come from us.
I mean, if you played Fury of Dracula way back in the days, I really love that. Yeah, the HR Avalon Hill, they're doing these things. So, taking these games from like way back and just like making new edition. Uh, some are really good. Some
are okay. Uh, but the production is always great.
Production is always lovely.
They always go down that like um the boulevard of broken dream of the nostalgia.
Yeah, nostalgia. That's right. But also, Fiora is one of those legendary one versus all hidden movement games.
I can't wait for that.
So, new new edition and we can't wait to see what they do with it. honestly. Uh we also got there is an indie game that if you haven't had the chance to check out, copies will be very limited at this point and it's this. It's before the ring. It is a push or luck type game. Uh will be played in kind of half an hour or so. It sounds the way that it was described to us really quite interesting the way the scoring works. Um yeah, we love pusher luck mechanisms anyway. Uh push your luck with cards. So, if you haven't got this, it's a lowrisk fun, but all we've heard from people that have played it is that it's very good.
The and the things that we saw is that um today a certain point there were 250 copies. Then we swing by again there were 100 copies. So, uh this is something that they're going like hot cakes.
Uh so, before the rain, Molina stand if you're interested in
it. Looks cute, looks cozy, but there is actually a game behind it.
Go and check it out.
Go check that one out. And while you're there, we've already talked about it. Time troopers, the solo adventure game.
I'm going to grab my copy tomorrow morning.
Go check that out. Uh we also got to play test uh Circle of Conflict. This is the new game from Office Dog. It is a Lord of the Rings themed Roland Wright uh competitive game. It was fine. I It was not for me. I don't really like rolling rights. So, the problem I had was I don't like Rolling Rights. Then, I started playing the game. Uh, but I mean, there's a lot there. I think if you love Rolling Rights and you love Lord of the Rings, you'll probably get a kick out of it, but it's not for me.
Yeah, it's um it's it's kind of like um um not complex. I can't even explain. There is a lot to write. It
things that trigger other things that trigger other things. The main the main mechanics, the main gimmick of the game is uh that you play contemporary as the the fellowship and the the good guys and the and the bad guys. Uh so you going to always play the good guys against the bad guys to to your left and you're going to play the bad guys against the good guys that way. That way. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway,
you're playing in a circle circle of conflict. But um basically what you're going to do, you you're going to roll the dice and that is the dice pool that everybody needs to use to to you do your stuff. Everything is secret. So you got this book where you marking out what you're going to do and then you're going to be like, "Oh, I've done this. I've done that." Um I think it's interesting if you are a Lord of the Rings fans. Uh go check it out. Absolutely. If you like the all the roll and ride uh stuff that office dog has done with like um uh journey um
it's a middle earth or whatever it is.
Yeah, the other the other middle Jesus it's too late. I can't remember the Yeah. Uh the back there and back again. Sorry guys. Um go check it out cuz it it could be with you cuz it's the IP is strong and the IP actually reflects very well in the game. If that is something that you like. Yes,
go check it out for sure. Uh, I got to play a game that we were extremely excited about. It was in our hidden gems, I believe. And it is
Lo. Uh, bloody loved it. Loaf is amazing. So, for 15 quid, I No, I think it's less than that. Go grab a copy of Loaf. Try it out. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Matt still hasn't played it. I've been playing it with
We're going to play it now, guys. It is really fun. Um, we're basically I'm basically role playinging my entire way through that game. Like trying to like tell, you know, convince people I'm working really hard. I'm not working hard and it is really cool. It's quiet quitting the board game. I loved it. Super super fun. Um, and the last thing I think we really want to talk about, Matt, is uh we did our big giveaway this year and boy golly was it big.
It went a little bit out of hands. Uh so really thanks to the to the security team at the NEC and the UK go uh cuz we've been very very kind that they asked us to move. We did. Thank you. Thank you all guys that were there to just following the instruction. I'm being
there were
a lot of people.
It was crazy and it was amazing by the way. I mean it was awesome.
I I was shaking. I finished. Yeah, we finished that things and uh yeah, it was a security say there were 200 of you guys.
It might be a few more
maybe a little more the count. We'll do some we'll do some we'll do some math.
That was amazing and it was amazing the love that we we got back and just like unbelievable.
So, I wanted to send a really special thank you to every single one of you that came and supported the event. Um uh all we wanted to do was make some people happy by giving some games away. Uh if that was you, if you managed to get one of the games in the giveaway, comment below and let us know. Um but it was so lovely to meet so many of you as well that came out and hung out with us after the giveaway, during, before. Uh it was such an amazing experience for us and we will be doing it again in some form.
Yeah. And um I I want to say it again because we we never really explained like that like very well where these games comes from and everything. Uh we as a channel we receive a lot of games by that that we review that you see on the channel normally and uh we feel that um keep keeping all those games ain't we ain't got the space unfortunately don't live in a castle and uh selling it or do something like that we're like absolutely not. Uh we feel that the best things with for those games is to get a place and get someone's that loves it and wants to play and that's that's um it's literally our way to say thank you to all the people that are following us and
absolutely and at this point I just want to say a very very special thanks to Mighty Boards who contributed some games just just for the giveaway with nothing in return. Uh also to the incredible team uh Eerie Idol uh for Old King's Crown who contributed a copy of the Old King's Crown for the giveaway.
Andrea at Lamascape.
Andrea at Lamascape Games as well contributed copy of his game. Thank you all so so much. Also, Rebellion Unplugged who we we couldn't get it in time, but they've also given us some stuff that we'll maybe use for next year as well. Um just thank you for being part of this whole crazy project. It was the best thing I think we've ever done as a channel. Uh we might got in a little bit of trouble for it. But we we apologize for that. But we'll make it right and we're going to do it even better next year.
Thank you security team at NC. We love you.
You did a great job.
Yeah, absolutely. So great job.
But saying that,
all right, we got an hour. We going to play a little bit more games, I guess, and then it's time to sleep. I need a sleep.
Matt is falling apart.
