UKGE 2026 Day 1 Review - Best of the Show
Transcript
Hello and welcome to Board Stupid. This is our first of our daily round up
Days have just finished so the holes are just closed. So everybody's moving here in the in the
6:35 p.m.
And this is where the fun starts.
Absolutely. So open gaming and then all sorts of stuff going on. But we've got a round up for you with all of the cool news, cool stuff that we saw at the show so far day one.
It's been a day packed with meetings and we met a lot of publishers so we got few things that we can tell you, few things that we've been told that if we tell you we're going to be
You're going to die.
Where do you want to start? Where do you want to start?
Let's start with our first meeting which was with Czech Games Edition. Obviously Drillers is their big game this year aiming to be released in the US I think first
Got Jen Jen Jen.
And then going on from there that's their big one. Also Critical Role Adventures the code names game but actually sounds dope. I mean there was a lot of cool stuff going on there.
It's super cool. There is something that I think we both think it's going to sell a lot. You got this like co-op mode where the people the person giving the clues is actually the the so it's fully cooperative.
There's like a leveling up RPG system involved as well. Very like way more than just code names.
Yeah in the boxes there are three campaigns that you're going to go follow through and stuff. If you're not a fan of Critical Role don't worry about it because the game is that it's just an IP. So think more like
Is it a RPG D&D
It could have been called Code Names D&D it would have been exactly it's it's the same thing. But if you're a mega fan of Critical Role there's It's to be an expansion that is purely dedicated to the hardcore fan of Critical Role. So, if that is for you, that is going to be great. Drillers is basically ready and it's going to be shipped. And first secret I should not say. Should we say it?
Yeah, whatever. They haven't Since you haven't quite announced everything yet.
Yes. There's going to be a new game cuz cuz Drillers is going to come out at Gen Con.
Yeah.
And there's going to be something for Essen. Something really cool. So, stay tuned. We'll tell you more in the next days. That is going to be that thing.
Stay tuned for that. Next up, we went to see Ravensburger. They have a new version of Horrified. We are I think some of the first people in the world to have this. So, we'll try and talk about this as soon as we can. This is Ravenloft. Basically, one of the coolest sort of worlds
It's the coolest setting indeed.
It's the coolest setting indeed.
It's the horror of the monster. So, if you played Horrified already, you know it. If you played Horrified D&D last year,
it. You know it.
It's strong. It's strong.
So, there is more vampires and golem and so that is super exciting.
Exciting to get to that. News on in terms of things that absolutely sold out. 10B sold out in 35 minutes and in 40 minutes.
And unfortunately, there are no more copies.
There's nothing. So, if you want a 10B, I'm sorry, it's gone.
There's going to be copies online retailing uh we through Zatu in the next uh literally like in the next couple of weeks. The container did not arrive. So,
So, they got what they have. They got what they got, but it sold incredibly well and it's gone. On the line of Mighty Boards, they have some very exciting stuff. Absolutely got some exciting things in the works. Obviously, we have some of the new stuff with Reiner Knizia. If you know one of our favorite games on the channel in recent years, there's a new version of that coming. Uh and also some other big designers they've signed to do some work for.
Yeah, so the uh there are projects in the making. Uh one of them is we can see where we did this is with with Bruno Cathala with uh they are getting Bruno Cathala to do a game in collaboration with Mighty Boards. Uh so I'm expecting a lot of that but on top of that there is more and more coming. Again, SN more more more releases um toward that. So yeah, we're really really looking forward um For the Gods loose.
That's really unreal. So I can't wait for that game to actually hit. Uh For the Gods is amazing by the way. Try and demo it. Uh next up we're going to talk about World Order. That is in its kind of last batch of copies. There is no deluxe versions left. There are no extended versions left. No, just retail.
retail copy. That between you and me is more than enough.
You don't need really more than that. It's also good value. It's 55 quid or
Yeah, the the the deluxe version will give you uh some insert for the for the player tokens and stuff and gives you the plastic um stands rather than the I I think the game is fine in the retail copy. There are not many many copies so if that's something that you are interested tomorrow morning just go go there and and pick it up but it looks amazing and uh we going to we're going to cover more about that game on the channel in the the weeks after the after the show.
Absolutely. Uh we saw a sneaky preview of a game coming out in 2027. Um I don't know how much we can say but as far as we know we're not under embargo. So uh it's called Room. I think this is going to be the next big thing honestly. Um so look out for that. It's dope. If you imagine like a like the Minds Bomb Busters, this kind of uh cooperative limited communication type game. Uh a cooperative racing game. It's such a cool idea.
Yeah, so basically what you got you're going to have an X number of cars in front of you for one for each for each player. You're going to play one car one car from your from your deck of cards and that car is going to have a number for example five. You need to move your car five spaces. However, the spaces are not
They're not defined.
They're not defined.
a table.
You need at the end of the race they tally up all the the cards for that specific numbers.
And each car.
And you need to get the right positioning of the cars in the in the chart. It's it's super cool. It's from a a new French publisher. So more about that to come. Most likely it's going to be 2027. We might see
Later in the year maybe.
Yeah.
We got to play this down up. This is the new game from Is it that game the right way or this way?
It's the same.
It doesn't matter. So this is the same guy that designed Scout. And I played this we both played it and I we were both worried that this might just be a bad Scout. It's good.
It is.
it's fun. Like
I think it's more accessible than Scout.
More interactive maybe.
It's easier to probably to understand for for for a lot of people. But it's super fun. Yeah, we had a we had a great time playing this thanks to Sven for the for the coffee. And
you. Go follow Great Britain. Go subscribe to him. The best German YouTube channel. All right. We also got to play the Cyberpunk co-op game by Asmodee. Not the Edgerunners game coming later. Not the CCG and not the TCG. There's a lot of Anyway, there is a cooperative game that Asmodee have and it is awesome.
So we did not know things about this game. This game is it's been fully funded on Kickstarter I think last year. It's going to be delivered this summer and then it's going to go retail in the
September time.
So if think about take Cyberpunk IP attach it to something like Arkham Horror but make it in way more streamlined way more more easier. It's a co-op that is very fun to play like three four players.
And basically what you do you going through the stories like think about Arkham Horror where you flip the cards you read a little bit of story.
You have enemies and blah blah blah yeah.
How to defeat the enemies and whatever you need to do you need to play cooperatively something like poker hands.
Yes.
So you need to each player will have to put down the cards and whatever kind of like poker scoring you go that's the damage that you're going to do to the to the enemy but then you go each character has got different different decks. So it's not like every every character got the same decks and they got different different type of of playing the game. So you got
different suits different cards.
that are more stealthy so that means this or that someone that are more powerful they add a lot of damage when you put down the cards. We had a demo of it and we fell in love. I did not know nothing about this game and it went straight up my my list of yes absolutely.
get a chance to play the Cyberpunk co-op game as a demo
Yeah it's on the Asmodee demo area so just have a have a look at yeah.
Awesome so go try that. We also got to sit down with the folks at Chip Theory Games.
Yes.
Chip Theory do all of the beautiful deluxe stuff but they also have a brand new imprint of games.
Yes.
Uh which is going to be way more accessible stuff.
It's called Neon Nights.
Uh Neon Night Games correct?
Games yes.
And then
It's kind of like a subdivision of of Chip Theory game but they trying to make more affordable not just money wise Um, weight wise cuz you know Chip Theory game for lately for Elder Scroll, but you know them for Too Many Bones.
Cloudspire, Burn Cycle, etc.
Like like big commitment games in in both like money, time, and and all of them very much more toward the solo co-op.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Um, they got these new these new things that it's been launched like a few months ago with um with Rot. Uh, that with this order like they they this
And Rot looks awesome.
Yeah, so maybe we're going to talk about that more in the the weeks ahead. But then they got this very cool game that is Neon Reign.
Yeah.
That is a basically like playing an an arcade Street Fighter.
Big button.
Yeah.
Um, so one versus one dueling game essentially.
Uh, of course the as soon as they told us about the game they showed they were showing us the game. Uh, the first thing is like, all right, this is stuck theme with another with another skin.
No.
No, because what you do in it you got a deck of cards and each one of the cards that you're going to play they got literally like like the the arcade button, red button, blue button, yellow button. Oh,
And stick, and stick, etc. etc. Yeah.
And you're trying to play three cards at the time to make combos. Each character will have different powers and you can do different combos like doing a dokkan. Like it's a it's a
down right punch. You literally doing something like that. And the the the opponent can place counters, counter attacks, or there's a back and forth.
It's pretty cool.
And all the artwork is from the the guys from Dice Throne, so you will recognize his style.
And the design itself is by the guy that designed that.
So it's absolutely amazing. I was I was pretty pretty cool about that and then we talked about all about the the new 20 Strongs content coming out again as well. We're you to do with solo a solo games video? What you going to do?
are you kidding me? All right, Matt, talk to me about a game that you played. I didn't I was busy wandering around. Um and this is uh the upcoming game from Paverson Games, which is Ring Yo. Ring Yo. We haven't been debriefed, so you tell me.
Yeah, so so I was playing and Wynn was wandering around.
That was happening. That was happening.
um I really enjoyed it.
Yeah?
I really enjoyed it. So basically in Ring Yo, uh you um uh basically in this like in Japan, of course, and you need to take care about the um a a portion of the land that is being given to you by the shogun. Okay? Uh but how you going to do it in a um you need to do it in in a sustainable way. That means that uh you got your land, you need to grow um different type of trees depending on the um on the type of terrains that you got. Uh you need to use you need to cut the the tree to build build building uh all that kind of things. But you got these very cool mechanics, these weather mechanics. So at the end of each round, there's going to be some weather that's going to happen and there's going to be rain in different type of terrains. For example, on the green terrains and then on the yellow terrains. So if you got um a tree on the yellow terrain and it's raining there, your tree will go grow up. Okay? So next turn you can chop it and uh and build more more stuff. But if you don't have any trees on there, what's going to happen? It's going to be flood.
I got it. Yeah. Okay.
Now, if flood is fine cuz you can manage, but then if you rains again on the on the on the yellow, that flood that is in there is going to expand to the to the rest of the um of your of your board and it might destroy the the trees that are already there or the structure that you build. So there is this very cool mechanics of of um knowing which um resources to utilize. You got these different type of workers that will manage to do different um different action. Uh There is all all the game is basically multi-solitaire.
Yeah.
But with a big butt. So when you do your turns, you do you're putting your workers down on your board. You do all your three actions, whatever you need to do. But this got this very cool auction system at the start of each round that will determine the players going first. And you will have in you will have a card from one to six in your hand and you need to play one of those cards to decide who's going to go first. However, the higher your card is, you might have negative things. So you might have to pay for that card. And the lower one is that will give you a lot of bonuses. So you need to balance. Do we want Do Why really need all this bonus? And am I go last? That means that I cannot fulfill the contract first and I'm not I can't take the initial starting round bonuses. So it's it's really cool cuz it made the interaction in a multi-solitaire game that I think that was really cool cuz I at the start my my thing was like, oh, is this going to be just multi-solitaire? It's not. It's really cool. So Yeah.
Interesting.
All right, there you go. So that's Ring Go. I actually saw there was a company currently doing remakes of sort of Wolfgang Kramer, Michael Kiesling games. There was a a new version of Mexico which is actually part of the Mask trilogy of games. And this new version looks absolutely awesome.
Yeah.
this So you must be getting really excited.
Dude, it looks sick. So um if you get a chance to take a look at that, small small little stand. But if you like old school Eurogames like I do, go check that out. It's an old school Euro area control game. So do go check that out. It's a new print of Mexico coming later this year. They are showing it off. So go and check that out. We got to play at the Zatu stand, the new game from the designer of Flip Seven. And this is a game called Tally Up. If you imagine Flip Seven, but with dice.
It's take Flip Seven, mix it with craps.
No, craps.
No, the
And uh or zombie dice.
Yeah.
Kind kind of that. Yeah, chuck dice and you stay in to get more more points.
Yeah.
Or you choose to go out and bank your points. If you stay in, you might go bust. Very similar vibes to things like Flip Seven.
Yeah, you got this like push your luck, but this time it's going to be rolling dice. And then you got a lot of shenanigans because some of the dice will give you random bonuses or maybe maluses. And you always need to decide, do I want to roll more dice? Do I want to go out and just cash in my points? The really cool things that they've done, you can play without, but there is an app that actually takes away all the mean math that you normally have to do with Flip Seven, for example.
app. It's The web app is great. It was really cool. Works really smoothly.
So, that was really good.
really fun. Another thing that was really fun on the same stand, I thought Matt would absolutely hate this. This is Ubongo. Ubongo is a cooperative dexterity game and it is the dumbest, most amazing thing. It's so stupid.
dumb that it's good.
It's so good. It's so like
that it's really good.
This is the perfect pub game. Essentially, you put hands out and you need to like flip cards over and that tells you to put a stick between two people's like fingers and you end up with more and more Yeah, it's
So, it's going to be your middle finger and my index finger. They need to be like this.
more and more sticks and you need to keep going until you basically get through a certain amount of sticks. And then you have it like an advanced mode where you need to put like these sponge balls in between the sticks. Ridiculous fun. Worth a pop for like 15 quid. Great fun. We had a blast with it. Very silly. Very, very fun. Um, we are actually tonight, Matt, we're going to be
Literally in half an hour.
We're going to be at Nightmare Live. Uh, if you are going to be at that you won't see this video cuz this won't come out until tomorrow.
But

When when when really, yeah.

he was going to cry.
I almost cried. What a gentleman he was as well. Got some great pictures. Uh, what a great guy.

that would that was great. Uh, I need to add one thing. Uh, one of of the guy the guy the the games on our list that of the Eden game was can't wait and I couldn't wait can't win, sorry. I couldn't I couldn't wait to go and grab it. It's it's all gone. Sold out. It was sold out literally like 10 minutes after the the show was open. Uh
