today it's 15 more GenCon top picks in the mix with clips and riffs to give the clicks hey there I'm Chaz Marlar from pair of dice paradise thank you for joining me in this shirt because we are mere days away from North America's largest annual board game convention Gen Con where at least 600 new board card and tabletop games are going to become available for gamers to add to their tables their shelves and their game nights I recently combed through a list of these games and I went and picked out my top 10% that interested me the most to discuss here this list I made started in this video and here's another video that covers games that are only available to demo and here's an apricot what I'm gonna try and do is I'm gonna avoid games I have previously discussed another top 10 top 5 and other recent videos that have made there are 45 of my top picks still left to cover so let's continue on with number 16 number 16 is kurios a bluffing deduction game of bidding on priceless artifacts if they're priceless how do you know how much to bid anyway kurios is a game in which players will acquire artifacts from various different locations and dig sites then using the cards in their hand and those revealed by others they will be able to deduce the possible value of the artifacts allowing them to focus their efforts on the more profitable ventures at least what they believe are the more
profitable ventures 1-minute treasures from a loss froze pyramid are gonna be all the rage with collectors and the next minute religious artifacts discovered in a remote temple or what's a demand people are so fickle when it comes to priceless era placeable artifacts kurios is a game of worker placement deduction and bluffing and it's simple and quick in fact the marketing blurb on the website says that this game is quick to learn and even quicker to play which could be cool and unless it takes you know seven and a half hours to teach then you haven't really gained anything have you kurios still I am obligated to proclaim I remain curious for kurios I don't even know what I'm complaining about because I wrote that number 17 is an expansion for Disney villain evil comes prepared so prepare yourself because in this expansion each player takes control of three new Disney characters each one a villain in a different Disney movie which is to be expected you got scar from The Lion King you got Ratigan from the Great Mouse Detective and you have yzma from The Emperor's New Groove and I'm just going to claim it right now dibs on yzma through all eternity and continuing the trend with the game each player will have their own villain deck fate deck player board and little 3d character piece of this expansion is going to be playable on its own and its characters can also face off against the other Disney villains
in the base game from 2018 and in these standalone expandable mesh it together other expansion wicked to the core which came out last year this year it came out before today that's really all it's important is that there's another expansion that also exists that's also really good villainous is an excellent game wicked to the core is already on my game shelf and I am fully prepared to come home from Gen Con with evil comes prepared nailed it on the 7th game to take number 18 is don't get caught a silly little party game in which you try to manipulate people into doing the things that you want them to do huh apparently I lived my life as a party game don't get got as a party game in which each player receives 6 secret missions the first player to complete three of these missions wins the game but you don't have to sit at the table to complete these missions I think this game is designed to be run in the background whatever else you have going on which means you can play it anywhere at home on holiday in the office back at home or on another holiday yes even at a party whether that party is at home or in the office some examples of missions include getting a player to compliment your weird shirt hiding your card in a jar and getting another player to open that jar for you or making up a word and getting a player to ask you what that word means don't get got sounds like a game that I am definitely going to be subjecting a lot of my friends to frequently whether they want to or not
in fact this was one of my top picks that I bought sight unseen through the bgg pre-order system before even getting to Gen Con so it is sitting there in a booth waiting for me to pick it up to get got so I'm gonna go get it and then get it to not get gone the game looks fun number 19 is era medieval age the next evolution in ruling rights a role and build era medieval age serves as the spiritual successor to roll through the ages but while role of the ages was a pioneer for role in right style games era is a pioneer for role and build style games am I just making all of this up well no not this time because in era your dice represent different classes of medieval society as players attempt to build the most prosperous city with them the build part of the game comes into play as players actually do build their cities on board using 3d pieces such as walls keeps farms and other structures by the end of the game each player will have their own little unique city built in front of them of their very own except that when the game's over you got to give it back because it's not actually your very own for the forever it's just throughout the course of the game until a final scoring is done and the one with the highest score wins the game now I can't help but wonder if rolling rights are this close to wearing out their welcome and gamers in general are ready to move on to the next next big thing however era of medieval age does seem to put a pretty interesting twist on this whole rule and write adventure we have
going on right now so I am interested to see and how they pull this off and managed to keep whole roll in right genre good and fresh and know that that's it cool and fresh is really my only concerns so we'll find out number twenty is the first expansion to ever del pearl Brook pearl Brook introduces a new signboard the river board where you're gonna send your frog ambassador to gather a new resource pearls players will also encounter a new aquatic critter and new constructions and all sorts of neat stuff that's just packed into this beautiful beautiful looking expansion the base game of ever Adele plays and looks fantastic and so when I heard that there was an expansion coming out even if it just adds more the same it still got me really really excited to fight more so that's why I am really hoping to be able to come back from Gen Con with a copy of / Brooke to mesh into ever Dell and keep the fun going number 21 is Hodari a civilization city building game with simultaneous action selection Hodari carries you off into the world of cultures and countries all over this flat plain we call earth over the course of three epochs you will experience the transformation of your new world from a small settlement to a high a fistic ated culture and you will want to populate this world with people who come from different cultures and continents as well as different ages and even with all of that to do you still have to pay attention to agriculture normal culture and military culture otherwise all your competitors might get bigger and more successful than you and that's no good for your country come on which poses the
question of who will succeed first in creating a new flourishing culture the answer of course even though it doesn't completely make sense is Hodari number 22 is hats a card game in which you use your hand to acquire hats for your head in this game two to four players will compete to acquire the most outstanding and lavish hats by exchanging cards in their hand with cards on the tea-table board in the main player area an H exchange that they do influence how each of these hats is going to be scored do one thing and it might make this more valuable or lists less valuable perhaps this hat goes out of vogue it is no longer very much a hat that you want but this other hat which used to be a garbage hat that certainly certainly nobody would want that hat now everyone wants that hat it's the Hat you want the Hat you will need to win because the player with the highest score will win this game oh they'll win the game a gun additionally also probably important to note is that the game appears to come with a plastic replica of a chocolate chip cookie I repeat a plastic replica so please exercise some wisdom and learn from my mistakes think twice before you wear this shirt next time you make a video number 23 is heist a cooperative memory driven dexterity game with a big chunky piece of plastic sit in the front I think it did on that has a neat thing that sits on the table
that's made out of plastic it's not a replica chocolate-chip-cookie it looks like a safe continuing on here's something that I think that you should do pull off the heist of the century and get rich quick or lose it all that's it those are your two choices unfortunately there's now a cooperative electronic game called heist which will accommodate the decision that you make because in this game players can take on the roles of different characters money man hacker lookout or explosive experts they aren't proper named experts they're just generically named experts but that's good enough for me because they will work together to open an electronic safe and grab fifty million dollars in fake cold hard cash along the way of their exploits the stakes have never been higher other than the fact that this is a completely fake money but play along because you will choose your character you will use and trade tools to complete the task at hand and you'll have to listen closely to your team leader because one false move oh just one you'll trip the alarm and boom you have to wrap up the game and send it back to the store the stakes are that high ok that's that's not true but heist does include a 3d safe for players to crack 5 progressive levels of difficulty and a bonus top-secret sixth level that's waiting to be unlocked you know what else we've unlocked word from our sponsor welcome back and sure you could
subscribe I I wouldn't mind number 24 is hunga a game that demonstrates that cats have been a thorn in people's sides ever since the Stone Age Tonga is an action selection resource management game for 2 to 5 players ages 8 and up set in the prehistoric period in this game players are gonna take turns playing their action card to a central board paying careful attention to how they place it and where they place it because you're gonna have to rotate it certain ways in order to get optimal actions during your turn this is because the number of hands pointing to an action space determines how many times you get to use that action on your turn throughout the course of the game players will gather resources and use them to complete trade agreements they will lure mammoths to the tribe herd and they'll pay homage to the old nature gods but then there's the cat Tonga because if you don't leave at least one of your action points allocated to hung as den he's gonna come and steal some food from you you gotta pet this cat or the cat comes and takes your stuff oh who does that remind me of oh I know every cat I've ever known but they're still fuzzy and cute so all in all while playing this game players will need to balance between keeping conga at bay and using their limited action points effectively I got a chance to actually play a game of Hanukkah at the Gama trade show back in March and it was fantastic it's an entry level family game but man it really still can have some bite and real competitive nature to it if you really want it to Haga is definitely worth checking out at
Gen Con so if you're there this then go do ya eloquent and 425 is horrified a cooperative strategy game based on all those famous monsters that we all know and love so well now what you need to do is you need to imagine with me living in a place so wretched that is not plagued by not one not two not even three monsters but seven of the most horrifying fiends that you have ever laid disconected eyes on no it's not your 10-year highschool reunion it's horrified based on the monsters from Universal cinematic dark universe oh come on guys give the dirty universe a third chance okay Oh quitters I'm not watching it either in this game you will come face-to-face with all of these monstrous monsters as you work together to rid the town of the maniacal or just misunderstood creatures before it's all too late horrified includes high-quality sculpted miniatures of Frankenstein the Bride of Frankenstein the Wolfman Dracula The Mummy The Invisible Man and The Creature from the Black Lagoon the game is designed to be innovative and easy to learn in its gameplay and has players working together against the monsters with varying levels of difficulty each monster is unique requiring a differ strategy and tactics in order to be defeated so don't be frightened of horrified instead check this game out and see if it's one that's gonna make your spine tingle I just made that up
number 26 is incue bation which is possibly a card game about farming fantasy dice animals there were a lot of words in this description so let's let's sort this out together here's what you need to know an incredible discovery has been made that will change the world forever high into snow-capped mountains explorers have come across a number of large colorful dragon eggs and now the whole world is clamoring to get their hands on what's inside dragon yoke know something better an incubation two to five players take on the role of entrepreneurial dragon breeders looking to make a fortune by collecting the required resources and feeding them into their special dragon egg incubators to hatch them and reap them rewards as the Dragons begin to emerge from their eggs players can use them to fulfill objective cards which earn them coins and the breeder who has earned the most coins through hash dragon eggs completed objective and collected tokens wins the game no word yet though on what they end up doing with the Dragons the hatch I'm thinking two words dragon pediatrist number 27 is an expansion I've been waiting for a long time the expansion to inish seasons of image in this expansion Enosh welcomes a fifth player into the mix also in this expansion players will discover new gameplay with the seasons wheel bringing new modularity and modalities of victory I don't know what either of those two words mean all I do
know is it means more neat stuff for more players to do things like explore the six new territories and lead your troops from the harbor's to the island yeah and if you're not big on ports this expansion also offers new action cards as well the marketing copy four seasons of finish tells us to go back to the adventure warrior and may the gods be on your side and I for once am ready bound and determined to listen to that marketing copy number 28 on my list of games to check out at Gen Con is Kenny G keeping it sexy yep it really is now at first I thought that I wanted to try out this game but then I saw the back of the game box and I knew it must be mine so what are we doing in this game well we will help Kenny G stay in the groove with the power of jazz because in this cooperative game players will work together to make sure that Kenny stays smooth and sexy through his hectic days of musicianship and participating in the 18 T Pebble Beach National pro-am golf tournament so what he does during each round players will play sound cards which will help Kenny overcome uncool events detangle his luscious locks and avoid rush-hour traffic without missing a brassy beat no jazz playing in the elevator burned the building down better yet Scout with your friends with a little bit Lee sue Lee diddly bop bip bop because with that you can help get Kenny back in the groove and keep it
smooth Oh Oh fax me this game looks ridiculous but wonderfully so and it's developed by big G creative who also created the recent Bob Ross painting game and several other games that have been like whoa that's actually a pretty awesome game so yeah a decent perhaps even above-average game with a ludicrous theme oh I'm glad than that number 29 is the King's dilemma a game of negotiation and voting which not everyone at the table is what they seem the King's dilemma is an interactive narrative experience with legacy elements featuring several branching storylines leading to many different possible finales and an evolving deck of event cards at its core that kind of managed the whole experience in the game players will represent the various houses leading the government of the kingdom of ankus who have the responsibility of keeping the kingdom going also seeking an advantage for their own particular house mmm yeah you know what I'm talking about yeah you mm-hmm okay this power struggle that develops can lead the kingdom into war or famine or riot we could generate wealth and well-being who knows you know everything can happen and happen it may because every decision has consequences and what's good for the kingdom as a whole may be bad for your family now I haven't actually been able to find a lot of information about the
Kings dilemma going in to Gen Con so I'm hoping to do a little bit of recon and information gathering while at the convention to really find out if this big huge substantial game is worth bringing back with me for now I'm just getting ready to go into Gen Con with my fingers crossed saying o Kings dilemma please please live up to my expectations and number 30 while being only the midpoint on our overall list is the game that I am perhaps the most excited to find out more about at Gen Con Las Vegas royale many people know that the original dice game Las Vegas is one of my like top 5 favorite games of all time easy and this is a deluxe fide version of it that takes it to the next level Las Vegas isn't easy to learn dice rolling game that includes 6 cardboard casino mats one for each side of a normal six itíd die being here I know Las Vegas royale combines the original Las Vegas dice game from 2012 with some of the elements from the Las Vegas Boulevard expansion from 2014 including 12 expansion tiles is this just a repackaging of the base game with expansions or is there some retooling going on here and some new content that is what I want to find out at Gen Con and is why Las Vegas royale is on the list and number 30 all right so that's it for this installment but join me in a new shirt in a few days as we continue onto the next batch of games on this list of the top 60 games coming out for
sale at Gen Con until then I've been Chazz Marlar from pair of dice paradise and take care you
