unbelievable it's completely on you okay they're the meatball a Channel all about why'd you go so slow are you doing this on purpose slow yeah you said you were saying the words very slowly we'll do it again are you doing it on purpose no okay new rewind welcome back [Music] hello everyone and welcome back to Foster The Meatball a Channel all about and origami things and the winter happy Winter people today is the first day of winter it's not I think the first day of winter is the 22nd today is the 20th which means winter is coming winter is fast approaching this is a Game of Thrones plot might be can't tell you no spoilers so that means the seasons have changed which comes with an inevitable recommendation video what was that word it is inevitable I feel like that song you said the first inevitable Jeff doesn't even know what that means I don't what does that mean can you believe that anyways okay we are here to give you 10 winter board game recommendations that you can play during the winter seasons nay games that you should play during the winter seasons because they invoke the feeling and none of these will have anything to do with winter most of them actually do here's what I found that's a change in Pace here's what I found doing my research I put my candy now you put your trash everywhere oh my God there's still one in there Jamie like lives like a raccoon here's what I found there's actually a ton of board games that are winter based okay I had I had plenty of options both that doesn't make sense what do you mean based in the winter seemed around the winter both okay I have 10 board game recommendations Jeff doesn't know what's on the list I didn't even know what you're filming and I also have a couple honorable mentions honorable with the U Canada I'm just here the first game is actually a game that we don't own shocking we have played it a few times loved it and unfortunately it's not available in Canada yet it's a rolling right and it is called Riverside Riverside from chili Fox nailed it it's not available you are on a boat and you're rolling Dice and you're on a boat and you're going through the Riverside see where the theme comes in here and guess what the setting winter and you want to know what you do a lot in the winter you go on boats along the rivers Riverside I don't think I've ever a lot of cruise ships go to Alaska that's true winter just not permanently winter in Alaska that's like people assuming Canada's always tell me when there's no snow in Alaska okay and I'll show you a surprised face Riverside it's a great little game Riverside from Chile FOX also chili Fox that publisher is also set in the winter time it's very chilly you eat chili in the winter arctic foxes God that's a stretch okay the next game on the list is another rolling right oh you actually have it yeah oh I could literally just look at it the next game that we have is another one I don't even know I've walked right past them it's called Trek 12.

now here's the thing this winter just would you like listen there's snow on the cover first of all is this a winter themed one or a mountain climbing themed what do you do in the winter I mean in the summer you go hiking what's hiking called in the winter hiking trekking it isn't Trek 12. number one on the cover can you Pro can you show me that definition there are definitely look literally right here you're using your pickaxe this guy's wearing winter gear and is carrying a sheep on his shoulder yeah I'm not arguing that this isn't a mountain climbing game in the winter why is it in the winter because there's snow Jeff that's just because it's hot in the snow that's just because of the altitude it doesn't matter it's still cold it's not season dependent it's altitude dependent it gives you winter vibes okay truck 12 is another rolling I apologize people are trying to make different connections so like You're Gonna Roll the Dice there's four different options you can either take the dice amount that equals that you can go one less one above you can multiply it or you can divide it and you are trying to make connections of either sets of numbers or ascending or descending numbers basically like one to ten or however the dice go 12 obviously goes up to 12.

we're going through different maps that involve snow nope yes and there's even a Christmas themed one there is but there's some good argument then all right listen I got you know what no you're right thank you I know you're right Jamie okay the next game is a game that Jeff has never played and it kind of goes along with the same theme of track 12.

this game is called unsurmountable it is a button shy gaming isn't it instrumental it's unsurmountable okay this is a solo game so you know what sometimes in the winter you can't get out of the house because it's too cold that was very East Coast host you've been snowed in okay you can't get out so you need a solo game to play in the winter where did I go you tell me where have you been you went out to the grocery store you and you got snowed out also I'm stuck at the grocery store yeah it's not a bad place to get stuck actually your storytelling ability is really throw me under the bus as you can see an unsurmountable Jeff as you can see it's set in another mountain climbing one this one is actually all in the winter people are going to be with me on this so basically in this game you are building out kind of like a mountain with different Pathways and you are trying to get up to the top of the mountain okay and then all of the cards can we change this list name to top 10 games that you can play while mountains the next one won't have anything to do with the mountain anyways as you can see there's a yeti on this one yetis only come out in the winter and every single one of these cards has like a trigger that that you're going to be triggering so it might it might increase the size of the base camp by one base camp mountain climbing well you can have camps anytime the point is this is an excellent winter themed game called unsurmountable that you can play all alone and you don't need anybody who thinks Winter Games don't exist to play with you could do this by yourself all right fine next one we'll have no mountains are you ready the next game that we're going to recommend is called explorers of the North Sea what winter why it's in the north Jeff the North Sea is just a name of the sea and there's Vikings and we all know that Vikings love the winter this is a game by Shem Phillips part of the North Sea Trilogy you've heard of the West Kingdom that's for the summer time you've heard of the South Tigris that's for the summer time have you heard of the North Sea that's a winter game in this game it's kind of like a tile placement pick up and deliver game how fun is this game it's very good it's very why didn't you get it do we not have it Zach owns it we don't own this one unfortunately I wish we did because it's a lot of fun but basically you're going around your little boat and then you're gonna be placing out tiles and you're also going to be picking up different things like it might be like pigs or livestock different things and you're building out like your own like area yeah the thing that's really cool is like you're building out the map as you play and so you can kind of build up the map to block other people away from different geography types that have different livestock that you're looking for it's very good has nothing to do with winter but I'm sorry here we are when you think of Vikings what season are you thinking none Jeff you're thinking about the winter don't be ridiculous I think about that they're up north season independent I don't know what we're doing here it's cold it doesn't matter whether or not it's set stop depression it doesn't give you winter Vibes Vikings do I hope you put it on the list yeah there's literally a game called winter well we haven't it's not on there but this is the next one easy I like to hear it again this isn't winter it's just Empires that are in the north these games that happen during the cold old Seasons no it's just geography I'm sorry but are you playing this in the summer I doubt it you're playing this in the winter there's literally an Egyptian where there's no snow in the it's Egypt in the winter yeah yeah no like yeah he's already said it folks anyways empires of the north is an amazing engine builder game where you are playing as a different Clan building out your engine trying to collect different resources and points and victory points and all of that good stuff you are going sailing once again in the North Sea one can only assume you are doing Expeditions you are doing things like fishing you've got Penguins hanging around and it's amazing and we love this game do we not love this game I do love this game Jamie plays the same faction every time the uh hanuk Clan and she wins every game because it's the most OP Clan I'll love her so she plays it every time when you play this game with Jamie you're just watching Jamie play if you are looking at this at this cover and you are not thinking to her I'm thinking of Jeff geography types in the north I need you to be honest with yourself yeah I am you don't a Frosty and fun civilization card game yeah they're all in the north they also you you do understand that places like Iceland have or Greenland have seasons right you do understand that they have a summer it may be cold it may have snow but it's still the summer yeah so when we're doing these like like fall themes like oh root makes me feel like Fallen Force doesn't have all four seasons I argue with you on those two map too I argue with you on those too the winter I'm consistently a great recommendation I'm a consistent in my arguments okay next on the list fine just to appease Jeff here you go everybody here's a freaking game called winter this one's perfect good God okay winter you nailed that one from we got one games this is new small card game that does not need this box this is it that's the game and there's a couple of tokens in this game I got an arguments this is patterns of snowflakes how winter is that fairy winter this is a very winter game hence why it's called this game is very mean though so just you know it is very people tend to get a little feisty in the winter anyways I would say so you're building out snowflake patterns trying to create sets of four in your color snowflake which you is either going to be dark blue or light blue and then you're claiming that territory but then you gotta move cards around because you do that some it is yeah in order to do that you have to remove your tokens Whoever has the last token last wins essentially it is extremely easy to play this is a fantastic little travel game for when you're traveling in the winter we just played this for the first time and it's very good it's very crushed me crushed him I get stronger in the winter like a Yeti like a Yeti you're gonna think this is a stretch but oh I bet what happens to your home in the winter it gets cold it gets very cold and you want to know especially when you buy an old home yeah with character and you know what you need to turn on to to uh did you pick alleviate that no but I did pick furnace so you should turn on your furnace in the winter and so your pipes don't freeze yeah you're always talking to me about pipes freezing oh God this one's ridiculous no it isn't yeah go ahead okay so you have to turn on your furnace so your pipes don't freeze and that is exactly what this game is about this game is about old-timey people turning their furnaces on to avoid pipe freezing that's not at all what it is but also it's also an engine builder and it also has a bidding mechanic which is actually really it's pretty unique you're basically bidding on whether or not you want to take the card or to the resources if you lose you get the resource right I've seen this game break people's brains this is a brain burning one yeah don't play this with anyone that's got AP no but it is a very fun engine builder that makes you feel warm on the inside and that is furnace that might be the biggest stretch of any of these videos don't think so okay here's one Jeff Jeff when you think about animals what do you think of in the winter polar bear try again polar bear cubs try again I don't know yeah come on uh winterfox Jeff it Waddles Penguins exactly Jeff hey that's my fish okay yeah this one's fair this one is definitely a Sub-Zero game of fishy strategy hey that's my fish is a game actually you know what no that same argument would apply to this they just live in an area where it's always good it doesn't matter just don't have summer snowing they still have summer it doesn't matter I only want to play this okay in the winter you start with this map of different like fish tiles and some might have one fish and some might have two and some might have three you are basically trying to cut off chunks of these fish in order to claim them as your own or like when you land on a fish you get that fish it's like the ice is melting and breaking off and these chunks uh ice are floating away and you need to cut them off from your opponent this is an extremely mean Penguin game and like I said in the winter I get sassier I get meaner because I'm cold correct and I want to get all the fish these things are all correct that's a game about winters it's called hey that's my fish and there's snow all over it very good game very good game that one's okay I'll give you that one even though my argument still applies this one is called Ticket to Ride Nordic countries and it is set in the winter this one is set in the winter sand is on it wait is that Santa and there is a winter bunny so I've said this before in other in another video but for some reason trains make me think about the winter that's fair I agree with you on that it's this one is this one's fine holiday vibe to it you know it's got that oh it's chilly kind of vibe and we've played this one great game okay snowflakes all over I really like Ticket to Ride Ticket to Ride is an excellent we're actually going to do full video dedicated to Ticket to Ride with a bunch of different versions of particular we sure are and guess what this is going to be included and guess when we're going to be doing that video in the winter in the winter Jeff what is one of the most significant events that happen to the world that involves winter start of the NHL season that's actually okay I'm gonna switch the game okay if you didn't pick trick shot I'm going to smash it but that wasn't going to be the intro for trick shot but I did pick trick shot okay what is our second national sport hockey everybody thinks it's our first but actually what is our first lacrosse summer hockey Jeff actually you tell people about trick shot because you seem to be on board with this as a winter game so you go for it yeah I mean I do play I do play hockey in the summer though so there's a there's a easy argument against they have to make it cool inside for you to do that trick shot is a board game about playing hockey in its purest form you are think of it in terms of like a bit of a skirmish board you have your hockey team that you're going to move up and down the ice you're going to take actions roll dice in order to pass the puck shoot the puck check people poke check do all of these things the ultimate goal of scoring with your team that's it you're playing hockey Canada when does Hockey Night in Canada come on the TV in the winter time it also bleeds into other Seasons I won't lie to you I'm glad you pulled this one out yeah hockey is a great winter time activity in the winter what do you do you play ice hockey on the pond hey the Lake's Frozen guess what we're throwing on our skates we're getting our sticks yep not me nope not me I'm not doing that but this one that's all he does let's think about a different event think back further in history before hockey was Ice Age oh Jeff you're reading my mind it's almost as if you saw the game I didn't dominant species that's this one's this one's I again a stretch we're on the same page and this one's a stretch in this game it does have a big Ice Age element first of all I want to play this game again I do too please play this game again there's an ice age that happens I don't play that one when Matt comes over yeah yeah we sure can I don't know how much about history everybody knows but the dinosaurs were killed off by an Ice Age no they were killed by an asteroid what did the Ice Age do the point is in this game there there was an ice age and the ice age is also a great movie that has helped in it there's no dinosaurs in this game there isn't that's a bird I know well technically birds are dinosaurs okay dominant species is an area control area majority area majority game where you are essentially playing like the food chain like you can play a variety of different types of species all of which are kind of like one up on each other so there's like mammals reptiles birds amphibians arachnids insects flowers no flowers what okay there's no flowers I literally just listed them all so you're playing like all of these different types of animals and during this there is like a glacial period there's an ice age that happens and it starts to like kill off some of the different habitats the whole premise of the game is that you're trying to get ahead of the Ice Age yeah and basically the ice age is just a big winter yeah that's fair that's fair I'll give you that one that's right okay and have I gone through 10 yet I have some honorable mentions the first honorable mention obviously it's right in the title it's called dwarves winter this is a game about dwarves defending their castle in the winter it is a semi-co-op game where you are both working together and against each other we haven't played a ton of tower defense games yes um this is one that we have played and I very much enjoyed it anyways it's set in the winter now there's another game that you're probably like excuse me why is this on the list it's like it's new hotness 2022 best game of the year according to many people No frost Haven endless winter oh that could work too Frost Haven can also be an honorable mention we haven't played endless winter yet so we can't put it on the list but I am almost positive that we are going to love it because apparently it's like Dune Imperium it's like lost ruins of ironic because it has like work replacement yeah building and it's set in the winter we have it's upstairs for me to learn it's upstairs project I was actually going to uh maybe set it up tonight the last honorable mention is ice cool about penguins in a school oh yeah yeah made of ice it's ice cool but it sounds like you're saying ice school yeah you're just flicking Penguins around to school a pick and flick adventure so that's Boogerman close enough well when do you get the most boogers that's true that's in the winter in the winter so I'll also recommend Boogerman for Super Nintendo for Super Nintendo SNES okay now do you want to know here's my one last thing I'm gonna say an event that happens it happens during the year and it happens just before winter it's kind of like that event that you go to you're like I'm gonna get in another one more big event before it gets cold because you're going to Las Vegas and that event is called the world series of board gaming right yeah okay great I didn't know where you were going the world series of board game fun for event that happens in Vegas where you can go different tournaments yep to find out whether or not you are the best don't we all want to know for the best board gamer I want to know if I'm the best I know the best I'm the best board gamer in this household that's clearly not true but I need to take it to a broader audience sure why don't you go
