Pros
none
Cons
  • Too many punch tokens on hero cards instead of movement or heroic actions.
  • Civilians flooding the board left no chance against the villain.
  • The chosen hero team was not capable or suited for the villain's mechanics.
  • Constantly having to deal with crisis tokens meant players were top-decking.
  • The game beat the host despite tactical play due to a bad choice of heroes.
Thematic elements
  • Taskmaster taking on Black Widow, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, and Ms. Marvel
  • Times Square, Avengers Tower
Comparison games
none
Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • crisis tokens — Crisis tokens are added to locations, and some actions require discarding them. Taskmaster adds them, and overflow can cause more to be placed.
  • discarding cards — Cards can be discarded to remove crisis tokens or to perform specific actions.
  • Hero actions — Heroes use actions like move, punch (to deal damage to thugs), and heroic actions (to clear threats or rescue civilians).
  • Special villain rule — Taskmaster cannot be punched unless all crisis tokens are removed from the board.
  • Threat Removal — Players need to get rid of thugs (requiring two damage) and civilians (requiring one token) from locations.
  • Top decking — Players are frequently in a state of drawing and playing cards from the top of their deck due to a lack of options.
  • Villain activation — The Taskmaster has specific actions like playing dark schemes, moving, bombing (dealing damage and adding crisis tokens), and placing civilians or thugs.

Quotes (from this video)
  • Taskmaster wins
  • basically too many punches on all the cards basically we've got four heroes here that are full of punches instead of movement or even heroic actions
  • as soon as these civilians started being popped and all over the board we just had no chance
  • these four here are not a very good team they're not capable working in a team
  • not suited whatsoever and not certainly against the villain who can play civilians
  • i think i played this as tactically as i could i just got beat by the game

Quotes (from this video)
  • And so this is the video where I start the process of taking a look at them, seeing what has come in, talking about the campaigns that I cannot wait to play and realistically acknowledging that now that I have a child that goes to sleep at a fairly regularly scheduled time and wakes up rarely in the middle of the night.
  • So, pour a drink with me and uh let's go ahead and start going through all of the games that I need to not only unbox, sort, learn, but sit down and start to play.
  • Not a shelf of shame. No, not that. But a lustful, girthful pile of board games that are ready for you to just sweep them up in your arms and make dear and desperate late night romance.
  • I've been receiving stuff that I've already got on back order and I've been uh playing through a lot of stuff that I already had.
  • The most accessible big game campaign game narrative adventure setup I've ever experienced.
  • And the other thing for me is it has these really interesting branching narrative pathways.
  • How do you all go about opening up and organizing your games?
  • Listen, any of these games, I need I need people to come play them with me and make sure I don't get all the rules wrong.
  • The point of this video is just to talk about these giant flipping big box games that I have that I need to open up and all of the lovely games that I need to sit down and play.
  • Y'all said having a kid was going to like throw a wrench. Yeah, I didn't believe you.
  • I need you to let me know what games you have sitting on your desirable floor of unloved, begotten relics of a different age or future past.

TableTop Wolf - Marvel United video thumbnail

Overall sentiment (raw)
positive
Pros
  • Dynamic boss design with Kingpin actively relocating and advancing the plan, creating a persistent sense of threat
  • Thematic cohesion between the threat deck, overspill mechanics, and civilian rescue adds meaningful tension
  • Hero interactions and class variety permit satisfying combos and synergies, especially with unique powers of each Defender
  • High impact moments and near-misses create memorable plays and a strong sense of escalation
Cons
  • The difficulty is punishing; one misstep or poor access to movement can snowball into a loss
  • Predictability can be low in some rounds due to Kingpin’s relocation, which may frustrate players seeking more linear planning
  • Overflow and civilian management can feel punitive if the board fills quickly, making it tricky to recover once damage begins
Thematic elements
  • Cooperative boss-battle against a calculating crime lord who advances a ticking Master Plan while managing civilians and threats across multiple locations
  • New York City, with events centered around Central Park and the Police Headquarters, featuring Kingpin as the antagonist and a Defender-style hero team
  • Cooperative, card-driven boss encounter with a dynamic, moving villain and a shrinking top-deck plan that forces reactive play and staged rescues
Comparison games
  • Spider-Man crew (mentioned as a potential future pairing)
Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Bam events — Bam events are special effects that occur when Kingpin or other villains trigger them, often causing direct damage to heroes in affected locations.
  • Civilian rescue — Rescuing civilians yields benefits (tokens or actions) and reduces the pressure of threats, influencing the pacing of the round.
  • Deck and storyline interactions — Hero cards interact with a storyline deck, including swaps and redraws that can shift planning windows and alter available actions.
  • heroic actions — Each hero can perform heroic actions to move, rescue civilians, and contribute to threat resolution; these actions often set up future punches or defensive plays.
  • Kingpin movement and plan steps — Kingpin moves according to his plan track and card effects, repeatedly altering location, triggering events, and applying damage to heroes via Bams or plan advances.
  • Master Plan tokens — Kingpin advances the core plot by placing tokens around the board; the game ends in defeat if all six tokens are revealed and resolved before heroes disrupt them.
  • Movement and positioning — Movement tokens and character abilities drive where players can reach, chase, or block Kingpin, creating dynamic threats across the board.
  • Overflow — Locations with excess threats or civilians trigger overflow, dealing damage to heroes at that location and adding strategic pressure to clear spaces efficiently.
  • Punch/attack actions — Characters perform punch or attack actions to remove threats; effects can be spread across adjacent locations using certain character abilities.
  • Threat and token management — Threat tokens and plan tokens drive the strategic tension; players must manage where threats appear and how to convert them into successful rescues or defeats.
