GEN Con Day 2! So about that 10 game limit...
Transcript
All right, Josh. It is day two for Gen Con. Look, I'm not here to play any games, right? We have
I get it.
I have six equipment slots full. Day two, only four left.
Your IV Studio bag says otherwise.
You know, that's my lunch, all right? It's my lunch bag. We we just need to have some storage space for lunch.
10 more slots. That's, you know,
All right, don't tell anybody, man. Got some Gen Con coffee. But, that's the job. And right now it's 9:15 a.m. and it is packed in the demo hall. They don't let us in until 10:00 a.m. for the exhibitor hall, but check out the demo area.
It is very very packed. In here you can try out a ton of games for publishers. Usually publishers will split off between having a booth over the exhibit hall and also some demo area so they can try out their brand new games, too. It's also a great way to just get your game played right away and learned. That way you are ready to play at home. And there are also some really cool tournaments and events happening here as well. Thing is, tell me where else you can find thousands of people playing board games at 9:15 a.m. That's the best thing. So, this is a tabletop RPG tabletop game, but I want to show you how cool the terrain is.
Yeah, player. I'll turn this around like this
[snorts]
so no one can see it. There won't be any of these markers all right? And I'll set where I think I am. So, maybe I'm unsafe. I'm I'm dead if I I don't have a clue. I'm really awful at it. I will cover it and then turn it around for everyone else. Oops. I'll sit down. And everyone will take one of their markers and place it out there. So, maybe someone who knows me really well say, "I've seen you build a fire. It never works." And the other people each put theirs up to eight players. When everyone's placed their marker, we reveal. Whoever is on the line, any part of their bar is on the line, they score the points. So, that person would score three points. Apparently, we are in line for the Asmodee booth.
What are you What are you in line for? What are you looking to get, Tim? Uh me?
Yeah.
Uh nothing. I'm just in line with you.
Of your four slots left.
Josh is in line for Neroscape
I I
TCG mode. Neroscape.
I'm on board.
Okay. Supported. Okay.
So, Josh is in line for Neroscape TCG and I'm like, "Since you're here, I really want to get Dinab." Actually, it's in the window right there. You can see it. Right there. Little card game. I don't know too much about it other than Easy Cat and Jay from Cardboard East and Von all have been raving about this game. So, I'm like, because they all are, I'm going to get it. Why not? Yesterday, we checked out Fruit of Evil from the Asmodee booth and they just announced within what? 15 minutes? Sold out. It's wild. So, yesterday, we did 100 of 200 columns or rows that used to be in Gen Con. Now, I'm going to swing over to 300 and then up today and see if I can show you all the next set of rows.
Row 300. Paizo World is officially coming out with their own card game. Everyone's here playing the new Paizo World card game.
Oh, thank you.
This is Norse Foundry with a bunch of dice sets. I kind of want a dice set this weekend, man. I got to get something. Here is Brotherwise Games. I think they have the new Shelfie sets. Let me grab a quick. Look how tiny they are. It's so funny. Mini thick Gloomhaven on top there. Oh my gosh. Oh, cool. I didn't even notice that. It's a mini Gloomhaven up top along with a mini Calix. Oh, it's crazy. It's cool. Hey. Good. How are you?
Feel free to pick anything up and roll it.
Thank you. We're passing by Tea Absinthe. I really, really want to swing by and at least get like one bag. These These teas smell really good. And like it's so layered, so definitely swing by later. Now, Floodgate Games. I've also heard a lot of hype around Minesweeper. One broom, one minute, one secret word. Again, a round played with the crew right now.
Set in the Gloomhaven world where instead of playing an adventurous mercenary, you are playing an adventurous mercenary HR manager. Your job has been You have been tasked with recruiting a new team of four champions to join You officially join your mercenary company and compete in a series of tournaments happening next week. Then, there's a jobs board, which we're going to populate because you've been asked to work a long weekend. That's right. That's 3 days in a row of menial, completely beneath you jobs that you are going to be sending these new recruits out to test their mettle to make sure that they're worthy of
Right now, we're just waiting on Jason to choose.
Just Here we go again. Here we go again. All right, so Hey, there's a tabletop RPG of Thunder Road Vendetta now. It's super cool to see this universe built out.
I'm playing with this
Miniature Market It's a demo of the new Gloomhaven Mercenaries game. And the aisles I think like 4 or 500 to like 1,300 are all the really big booths. So, there aren't full aisles or anything, but it's like Asmodee. She asked what it takes to build a whole bunch of booths. It's actually pretty empty on this side, which is unusual for Gen Con.
Josh actually just picked up a set over here of Corvus Belli Infinity. What is that?
Uh so, it's a war game. We also have HexaDome, which didn't uh appeal to me as much, but this is uh kind of gladiator arena style war gaming.
Okay.
You have to control the points. Uh but I, you know, kind of similar to Tim, I love the war and the killing. Uh Infinity is a little different in that you're just straight up attacking each other. So, I picked up one of their essential kits.
Okay.
Super excited to put together. Um yeah.
You got the big three, man. You got Halo, you got
the Halo Flashpoint game.
Yeah.
I got the uh Cyberpunk uh combat zone game also.
Ooh.
So, what Tim uh is going to announce in a few days is his separate channel called Tim Loses at War Games.
And I'm the leader there. So, uh excited to be
pack. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there you go. Modiphius with a Skyrim board game. Oh my gosh, there's so many so many pieces for Skyrim. Look at this.
Um up until the final chamber. Um So, very, very, rarely will someone make it through all 24 chambers.
The dice thrown booth. There's a lot of individual original heroes here, along with play mats. We got slam thrown. I think Alchemist and Mystic Valley were new. Huge display. So, I just got the Old King's Crown Kickstarter arriving. I'm super excited about this one. There's only a bunch of copies here.
A D100 metal. Metal D100. I've been wanting to see this in person. Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation, but the full table. Dude. Look at this bougie table. Here it is in its full We've got all these individually painted pieces. Oh my gosh, it opens up for some storage. That is so cool. Oh, all the pieces fit in here.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
That's so cool.
That's nice. Look at the paint job of this. It's like all There are gradients everywhere.
So, this is used to fill this order. It's worth the points, but I get a favor out of it. So, this is hidden points at the end of the game. These range from one to three. As well as a little upgrade here. And then I can plug that in there. Whenever you end your turn, you rotate your gears. This mana left over just goes into an empty spot. I can plan whenever I plan I remove mana from my exhaust, as well as I can take orders from the market, so there'll be a bunch of these face up and I can fill them out order to the future. Last action action I can do is take a favor card. I can discard that card instead of keeping it to get the points on one of these noble houses, as well as the text listed right here. However, because I'm in the yellow exhaust exclusive maps, these guys will not work with me. They'll only work with me in here in here. So, I got to choose one of these houses to work with.
And if I was up here, they won't work with me. They they both identify with that.
So cool. How long you've been was it in development for?
Uh probably about a year.
Sorry, Josh. You're about to get taken down real quick, buddy. Say goodbye, buddy.
Oh god. Really? You got me this time.
All right, Josh. We just finished our Cyberpunk TCG demo. Y'all, let me tell you right now. So, I to be honest, I have not played Cyberpunk at all. Don't I'm not even familiar with the IP. But this TCG was a fresh a breath of fresh air. Like it was so dude, it was so good.
Yeah, I I'm a big fan I'm a big fan of the IP, so I had a lot of fun and just from a TCG standpoint in general, I had a lot of fun regardless of the game.
Yeah, cuz what's cool is it's a really like back and forth tug of war. Like I was winning initially cuz your goal is to get all seven dice to your side. But then I had three dice initially then four dice, but then Josh pulled it over and I think what's really cool too is that you can also use leaders as a currency and as a way to respond back to the other person, too. So, those are some pretty freaking cool unique elements for TCG. Like, I haven't been hyped up for a TCG for a long time. I'm surprised you'll even play it. This was different.
Yeah.
I like it. Love it. This is the most exciting part. When we get to see a live purchase.
This is my third board game, and it is the largest board game.
Why are you getting it?
I'm getting it because it can play solo, and it's easier to teach to people who don't normally play board games, and it's very beautiful.
Nice. I like it.
You're creating paintings.
Rats, the Pandasaurus event. They have a full-on wrestling ring.
This is insane.
This is an actual wrestling ring. It's going to be crazy. But, they also have some games over here to the side. Let me show you this display. That is nuts.
I just want to make sure that it is crystal clear. You know the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, Curse of the Black Pearl, when they say parlay, and that those rules were like a general guideline for pirates. Well, you know, I said earlier that 10 to 15 slots is my maximum. See, that right there is what we call a parlay. It's just a general guideline. I may have exceeded that already. Let's debrief. Just got back from most incredible wrestling match. That combined with board games, phenomenal. Thank you Pandasaurus for having us. It was amazing and I can't believe that we even got to witness a mix like that. Afterwards, we got to hang out with Chip Theory and play Wreck again, but we didn't get a full game played out because the the time ran out and everything. We had to leave the venue, but we did get three rounds played.
Jeremy absolutely destroyed us with the bolt through guys that I used originally. Hopefully I get like the fish people and the mer people. We're not going to talk about how many points I got. I got three. Point being, I feel like it just goes to show how much of a low skill I still enjoy it getting destroyed each time. Now, let's see what I got today for my haul. But, The Number Nine, you play cards of the same value, check the table, if you beat someone's set, and then create new combos and be the first out of cards to win. Very simple, light party game, but everyone's been raving about this one, so I had to get The Number And then, we also got to go home with Cyberpunk TCG. This, by far, was definitely my favorite game that I played today and that I experienced because I just am so amazed by how fun how much fun I had. It It just feels like a really big breath of fresh air. There is the promo card that we got. There's no effects yet, but there will be effects later on. But, these I think will be will be legal for play. On a whim, when Bonds was buying something from Frost Bite Games, I also got Fixer cuz I saw that it is a trick-taking game. Also plays for a two-to-four players. It's a one-v-one the all conflicts break out to seize control in this trick-taking area control game.
I thought I needed small little box, new trick-taking game. So, got a really good set of new solo games coming out for you all. I think I'm really going to enjoy this one, too, because Bonds really loved it and Ruwell from uh Gaming with Ruwell also really enjoyed it, too. So, this is Hercules and the 12 Labors along with the promo. They told us that they've been selling out of this this set of copies every day. So, I just feel like, you know what? This is my chance to get it anyway, regardless of whether or not it sells out, and I thought it was a good time to do so. But, I love the theme. I got a brief rundown of how the mechanics work. By the time I played two by bonds, I've already been sold even before Gen Con. And then, after our demo at Self Lo Fair, also got to go home with Gloomhaven buttons and bugs. I just Look at this. This is so cool. Like, this just really is a a mini Gloomhaven box. And I've always wanted to play this game, so thank you to Self Lo Fair for sending me home with this one. I'm very excited for this. Then, we also got the Pub Crawlers expansion. So, this is a a Buttons & Bugs expansion, too, along with some This is we got the Flames of Ashtor, which is a prequel micro campaign. And a huge thank you to Chip Theory. Thanks so much, Evan. We got to go home with Jump Masters compact version.
Also got Tainted Grail. You all know what I love these solo games. Tainted Grail and Etherfields for the new 20 Strong set. You all know how I feel about these games. Honestly, I feel like I just played it, and here we are with the final production. So, that I am excited about. And you know what? I've already played these. So, even though there are probably some changes, I would count these as played already on my shelf of shame. So, in total, nine nine plus six, we're at 15. But, everything's been tiny boxes. So, there is one game I'm thinking about. I am still thinking really really hard about Sprockets. I think it's called Sprocket. They're like This is engine building game with like metal cogwheels.
I want it. I love how interesting it was. Got a little demo of it and seeing like the gear the metal gears with the engine building is oddly satisfying. So, I'm going to think about it for the next 2 days. We'll see if I get it. But, in that that is the the recap for today. Hopefully you all enjoyed my adventures. Thank you all so much for for watching these these daily vlogs. I love bringing you all with me. If you made it to the very very end, go in the comments parley cuz that's what it is here. All right? It's a it's a guideline. It's a general Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl guideline for passing 10. Rep 15 games now. Rep 15 games now.
Done. Start.
Thank you all so much for watching. I'll see you all tomorrow.
