Moving Daniel’s Collection to a New Game Room!
Transcript
Hey, I'm Ryan. This is my brother Daniel right here in the flesh. We aren't often.
He's never touched me before.
This is Rolls in the Family. We are here for a very special episode as we are actually in Daniel's basement right now in a room that once was a a workout room. Squat rack.
Well, you can picture it.
Um Yep. And Daniel finally got his priorities straight and realized that working out is uh why do we need
So we're not here for fitness today. We're here for fitness game collection.
We might get some fitness and
we're we're fitness game collection in this room.
I thought you going to say some of the weight of the game.
And this is and this is now how we work out is we carry games.
Daniel just got a Primal the Awakening specifically so that we could get more of a workout here. got to move.
Uh, so we we thought why not document this moving experience.
This room has already transformed quite a bit. Daniel's got some new shelves, some new lighting, new table that you can't see. So, uh, yeah, we're just going to wing this.
We'll just, you know, you can watch this. We're going to have to figure out where we're going to put things.
I know you're going to hear some of the like how do we how do we think about
we're going to argue where you put things on a board game shelf. Yeah.
Yes. I have very strong opinions on these things.
I know. I'm excited to find
Daniel flew in an expert uh to help with this task. Uh but we better get to it. Here we go.
Yeah. And you said kids.
We got a So we are starting with the kids games. So we've got Frozen Match and of course my daughter's favorite Nemesis. So you know all the good ones.
Got to start them off with the with the easy ones. So, we're thinking kids games on the bottom. I mean, that that makes sense heightwise, right?
Yeah. I mean,
although you could argue, you know, put kids games really high so that they don't grab them and throw them off the shelf. You know, you had to put the protective
but you this this room's a little more uh out of the way.
That's true. I'm put a pad I'm putting a padlock on that side of this room.
This is not a kid zone.
This bottom shelf is pretty nice for these hobo ones. Are you Are we going
No, that's good. Actually,
not good for be of balance, though. In fact, ooh, it does it does fit as a uh
Okay. Over there. Here. I'll go grab some more kits. You You keep going, Ryan.
Leave this to the experts. Dang.
You We've kind of got a weird gap here. Dang. Cuz it's like the
Well, you can adjust the shelves. So, if there's like
I'm just trying to think how this
like cuz you could argue if you could make this row the like for a shuffle code names row. And then go
and put a ticket. I feel like you want like a ticket to ride size one at the bottom
at the bottom.
Well, like so that these are all on this shelf, right? And then cuz cuz you have a lot of smaller games that are
right
shorter.
That that makes more sense to me.
So are we doing that for I mean all the shelves have to be
they all they all have to be the same, Ryan. So
I think that would probably be better. How hard are these to change?
They're not that hard. Um, so you just just lift it out and then you just got to pull the I'll go get the I'll go get the thing to So this is 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 nine between.
There's only one tool out there, Ryan, when you need to change board game sh. The vice grip.
Got them on hand.
Oh no. Sounds like it's going well. Oh no. So the first audible of the day.
Yeah. Got to change it up.
So let's make sure this is what we want before I
No, I kind of like the idea. You're doing all of them and then we'll change our mind again.
Unbelievable. So Ryan, what what do we got going on?
Well, this is I feel like this is controversial. Yeah, this is we're already to our first big controversial moment here.
Dang, it was moving from the tried andrue cowex to the best. It is called the best, right?
It is. Yes.
Vesta.
No, it's best.
Besta. Um, and I think there's some reasons uh you feel it. One is the adjustable shelves here. The ability to define the height of shells. Have some that are smaller,
have some that are larger. This can this can fit a 14 in game right there. That's
which is is really nice cuz I tell you there's some things cough Mage Knight Ultimate Edition or other ones that literally don't fit in a
square of a cow.
You know, I also like the the width of, you know, you're not limited to these squares quite as much. You got a little bit more to work with
um with the width there. Now, one thing you're losing that the Cal has is the open back. And the open back typically gives you a little more room to like, you know, let longer games shoot out the back and still keep it.
You know what's interesting is the back is just a
it's nonstructural.
It's nonstructural. I'm like I wonder if you could
I don't know. Maybe it would just completely fall apart. That said, you're also you're also against a wall, so it's it wouldn't make
The wall is also nonstructural.
Take out the wall.
We can take that.
In fact, let's individually for games cut out drywall. Oh, there you go. So, you see them come through.
I just got a drywall. So,
you can get games from the other side. You can It's a My wife will buy that one.
Yeah, I think she will.
That's good. Okay. So, we uh down here. What's our first thing we're figuring out here with the kids games, Ryan? Cuz we're thinking of kids section.
We got some long ones here. Um so, we feel like those have to go there. You know, I like to try to keep them roughly by, you know, age, right? So, you got some of the earliest ones over here.
Oh, wow. I've never even thought about that.
Yeah, that's why I'm here, Daniel. That's why I'm here.
I know this is
um you know, you got some that would be a little bit later,
right?
But then it's it's a battle between that and aesthetics, right? Because you've got ones that like Little Bird, Big Hunger is like a 2year-old game, but do you you probably want to keep it with the other
together, right?
Um you know, and it maybe is more aesthetically pleasing to put them up like this.
So you get it's just not easy. There's no um
people think this is easy. I tell you what they're think
and this raid this is going to take us seven hours.
It's a good thing we made a whole vacation of this.
It's the only reason I'm here.
Oh, very nice, Ryan. Very nice. I like where you're going with this.
Um, is this all the kids games? Your your kids game collection is is quite a bit smaller.
It's quite a bit smaller. Yeah, I think that's I think I mean you got a few behind you, but
Oh, yeah. Classics like memory game and Candyland.
Ah, Candyland. I love that one.
You know, it does teach turns, I suppose. Do these fit here? Oh, they do. They do.
Oh, that's nice.
Let's see. Do you throw them all the way over to this side?
Man, there is nothing more pleasing than what we just saw right there, folks. My gosh, that is so cool.
This is what the they tune in for.
Watch out for the vice grips.
So, I need to start changing all these shelves, right?
If Yeah. Assuming you want like aesthetic.
Well, Ryan, come on. You know me.
You know me. I'm assuming you want this light, bright, and jumbo alphabet puzzle down here, too.
Um, so I'll start switching switching these out.
Okay.
Okay, we are structurally sound, folks. Structurally sound.
I want to collapse.
Can you imagine on camera?
These are the kind of organic moments in here.
Can you imagine the thumbnail? We could like catch it midshelves falling on us.
I get that in
midshelf falling on us. Oh my goodness. The opportunity.
So this is the this is the old shelf for people who
for scale.
Wo. Wow. But they don't know how tall you are. So what kind of scale is that?
Um Ryan 74.
We've established this.
So yeah, previous are a little taller than
um Yeah. So what what do we go with next?
Well, we're kind of starting from the bottom. And the idea was kind of like complexity as we go up, increasing complexity. Start with kids games.
So, we're thinking the other side on the Bob was maybe more party games.
Party puzzles. Okay.
I like it.
I think we
we got that's kind of how I did it here. We got like, you know,
there's some some sense to this.
There's some sense to this this madness. There we go. Let's see. Yeah, we're going to want to get like all the party games so we can assess the situation. I know
these are all what I
mics are still recording. I assume they are.
They're red on the other side.
Yeah. Okay, cool. Good.
Good.
Here's a sync point in case we lost one.
Um
except you can't see yourself, right?
Yeah, I know.
Classic Daniel. Try sinking off that editor.
Good luck. See some air movement through that doorway. Oh, that's good. Um, I think those are all the party games and Nemesis.
Party more. Yep. Nemesis classic. Um, okay. This is how we do things at Rolls and Family. Ryan works and I watch. Ryan is working the party section over here.
There's a lot of party games that come in like that roughly
format.
That's right.
It's a nice uh to do it.
Ooh, yes. That is nice. Actually, just tights up.
No way.
Probably.
Now, how do you So, Ryan, do you go from like tallest on the left and then do you slam?
It's hard to say. Is that the Is that the thing?
Well, sometimes if it gets low enough, you could do think like you put a game on top of it.
Oh, now that's just crazy.
To be determined. This one's probably over here.
That's crazy. Yeah.
Okay.
Fill out the sausage. Oh, this. Come on, Ryan. This has got to get like its own case with a light shining. Yeah, just go right there. Let's go. Fight. I think we're done. I think we're done. Look at this cinematic shot I'm getting. Ryan, your head.
Look at my cinematic shot. Sausage sizzle. that over-the-top height of my body,
you know, and we don't want to pack completely full right now. I know.
We almost need to kind of like we can't just do this all from one way to the next cuz then we're going to have a bunch of gaps at the top.
True.
We need to kind of like I almost wonder if we need a map.
We're trying to do it logically and like this is
I think we should I think we should fill the top shelf next cuz that one's going to be like those are all going to be the huge
Yeah. games.
You come on.
Um, and then we'll kind of kind of go from Plus. Come on, Ryan. I want to get to the big boys.
We're not here for this small stuff. Okay, Ryan, what are we doing?
Dang. And now we're going to dedicate the next 15 minutes to Ryan bringing Oh, look at Wow. Dang, Ryan. Going off the thighs there. Look at that.
And this is where my wife says I have an unhealthy. She's like, "Daniel, really? I remember when we used to just play Candy Land."
But is it necessary?
Is this necessary? And the answer is
no.
It's probably not.
Okay. I mean, I So, this this all I mean, well, not all of it can fit in one. I was originally thinking like in a in one of the top cubes and then some on top of the shelf. Now maybe we don't go top of the shelf since I'm not
This has got to go this way, right?
That is that is correct. Yeah.
So it's just going to be a primal
Yes. It's going to be a a primal box,
which is cool. Yeah. And that goes I had the rule book out cuz I was reading that one recently and Come and see. Are these going to fit on top? That would have been beautiful. Would have been beautiful. Was it meant to be? Yeah. Just go like that. Yeah. They're not They're not all going to fit. I know. So, that's the question is do you We could go on top of the whole thing. Like,
do they fit up here? No. That would have been beautiful, too.
That's just cuz Just lay them flat. No, I'm just saying it would have been nice to put them side by side.
That feels like a reasonable. You got This is a little awkward, but you know what you going to do?
Oh, I could get one of the characters out and like put it right there. That'd be kind of cool.
Yeah. No, no. I think what you need to do is get more Primal expansions.
Be like, Kaye, look at what Come on. What are we doing here?
Dang it. We didn't get enough.
We didn't get enough. Oh, well, there you go. That's It's a start. Look at Ryan. At this pace, we're going to be able to own like, you know, 20 board games.
Yeah.
It's a nice white aesthetic.
Thank you.
Just like us.
You see, this is where we start to test the industrial integrity of these shelves. Wouldn't you place a game like Elder Scrolls?
This does bring me great joy though that
this is not possible with the Calllex.
I know. But here we've got the big boy section. Uh testing out that structural integrity of the shelf and Ryan coming in. Love. Let's go. I told him he all this all this has to has to go together. This has to has to have.
And you're probably just going here. Oh, are these too tall?
Oh, they're too tall. Ryan, we got to we got to throw that ruins the whole plan.
We got a Lovecraft section over here.
Ruins the whole plan.
Although, I kind of like that spot for them, Ryan. It's like a feature That's a feature spot.
And Eldrich is going to fit here.
Oh, it better. It's It's nice. I'll [snorts] give you that. Uh, that's good stuff. I like it. I like it. What we probably need to do,
right? Cuz this is Yeah, this is too
What we need to do probably this could be smaller. Like if we're going to make it,
we said like forest. [snorts] Let me go get forest shuffle.
These don't quite fit.
But I don't think we can lower this one to fit forest shuffle. Well, no, you do force on side.
Oh.
Oh my gosh. What are you doing, Daniel?
I forgot you can rotate.
Oh man.
Because that would at least let you make one of them bigger. Like
Yeah, I think we want to go big big.
Now that means you have to move both, right? Okay. So, this is our latest adjustment. We lowered the shelf. Getting some more. We needed some more room for some bigger games up here. But is this too tight?
Oh, I mean it's nice.
The question is, do you have enough of those types of games to fill
I I mean I think we do.
There's quite a few. You know, you think you have a lot of part I mean
we got to have room to grow, too. We do have room.
We're not done yet. So, uh
it's coming.
Some big honking boxes, though. Well, here's the problem, Ryan. You put all the party right there. I know.
I think we need I think we need to make an adjustment. I I I think party. Let's go party right there. Well,
no.
Party in the middle section.
This here isn't party,
right?
This is all going to go up to like a filler shelf.
But I care more about fit than I do about like party needs to be like, why wouldn't we put the ones that are that shape on the one that literally is perfect?
I guess it's it's a balance. There's trade-offs here. I personally would want all my party games together.
So, could we take party and go here and have a party corner?
We could have a party corner. I think that would be an acceptable one.
We got a party.
That's what the people are here for, Ryan. Party corner.
So, we'll lower we'll lower this down and we'll we'll move.
This is going to be the best video we ever freaking put out. People don't subscribe after this. If you don't subscribe after this, so help me. So help me. Look at that. Got my thing. What were you just saying about Nemesis, Ryan? I was saying we forgot all the expansions that you're so glad that you picked up.
Hey, I just played this recently and we're going to play it more. So, and get your game out of here, Ryan. Look at that.
It's going to It'll find a way.
Yeah, he's going to put that thing on top. I know he will. Oh, I like that. I like that. Yeah. See, this is all strategic play, Ryan. You get a bigger shelves. So then you're more dissatisfied when you look at your collection.
You see what you're missing.
You see what you're missing. You tell your wife, "Hey, look at this. This isn't right." And then you get more board games. This is Arkham Horror the card game. Just extra. Yeah, it looks pretty bad. Dang it. Pretty awful.
Mage rule book.
No reason to keep that in the box. Make sure book the worst thing. I'll just keep it right here. It's kind of tricky. if you, you know, did the smaller ones, like there's going to be room that Key Forge could go on top of some, [snorts] but I don't like them.
You could hide chest back.
No, turn chest. Turn
is too long. Okay, we'll take chest out. I I just
The propping is nice until it's not.
You can literally do this if you just
Oh, yeah. You know what's one better place? the trash can. The real question is where does the crown jewel go, Ryan? The crown jewel.
Where does the the crown jewel Okay, Ryan's making it. Ryan's What's the What's the call here, Ryan?
Well, Daniel threw out Chrissy.
So So option So here, vote in the comments below. Option number one. Well, option number one is leave it where it is. Option number one is leave it where it is.
Option number two, Daniel's idea. Look at that.
But it would be between the gateway games and the children's game.
That's right where it should be. It's a natural step.
Natural progression of board games.
My suggestion is to put it on top cuz Twi P only get it out. This is a once in a while game
if you're, you know,
Yeah. I like a once every seven years. Ryan's on a good
if I'm feeling a little, you know, eager to get it to the table. But
we'll we'll go on top. Throw it on top, Ryan. Throw it.
Oh, like right now.
Yeah. Yeah.
Uh Cascadia should be over there. Although you're saying it's not long for this world. It's not. We'll see. We'll see about and world wonders. This I didn't even realize you still had it.
Yeah. I'm still trying to sell it. Anyone want to buy it? Let me know down in the comments below. I'll ship it to you. Oh, cuz like 7 wonders architects. I mean, my gosh.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying is
so I think we've almost got like some ones that are maybe heavier than they
maybe you make this all gateway and go to gateway plus up here. That probably makes more sense. And planet that fits Planet Unknown.
Yeah.
And it fits the philosophy of as you go up.
Yes.
As you descend.
Oh, can you imagine? Like that's going to be a big thing in our household like when you move up a row.
Yeah. Big time.
Feels like the Millennium Blades is the weird one.
So what's So where's our like is it is this is like
Well, I think this that's where it's starting over here.
So you think
um this row is the like
No, I was doing like the heaviest.
You think we're going to have tons of room or like run out?
Yeah, we're we're going to run out. You actually didn't get enough shelves. Um, I was doing those types of games here. The heavy heaviest, I think. Um, LeBron is probably a step down to work.
Apparently, that's Ryan's game.
Yeah, I forgot you had this.
Thought you were going to get away with it, too.
I totally going to get
So, we are coming down the home stretch here. We got uh few left.
Things are getting a little tricky. Daniel's getting a little worried. I'm getting a little nervous. I'll be honest. I'm sweating.
A little bit.
But we still got some room. So, if I was you, given where things would What would you do if you were me, Ryan?
I think I would make this bottom one down here my outgoing games shelf. Ooh. But you just have to be okay that you're probably not going to be able to do most of them vertically.
But that's good. They're the rejects anyway, so they should look different cuz that would that would disperse cuz you've got those scattered right now, right?
Isn't this great content?
This is really great. Please enjoy for the next two hours. Daniel adjusting everything.
Don't worry, I'll fast forward and edit
just to make sure. In fact, if this is a time lapse right now, I'm just going to look like I'm going crazy in front of the camera. This one definitely is a little little oddball right now.
That ain't it.
Um
Um
can we can we just like put Ultimate Railroads up one for now? Like I mean why does it have to be right here?
Well,
like let's just throw it up here for now, you know,
next to the other. and just like at least that looks a little more reasonable.
You've got room to get some games.
I do. Although I don't Well, in some ways a lot and in some ways not.
Yeah, but you're there's some games you're getting rid of,
right?
Yeah. Yeah. That's what does it that's the problem.
Primal takes up the same space as like nine games. Isn't that great?
It is finished.
Why play games?
You can just move them around.
You can just move them and look at them.
Um, that was Was that satisfying for you, Ryan?
I mean, somewhat. I had to, you know, we have we have slightly different taste.
Yeah. Where did we decision this? You're you're very strict with the uh descending box or like a box height.
Well, here here's what I'm curious. Let's list out what the differences and then our comment comment below.
I'm more willing to sacrifice that for games that like feel like they should be next to each other.
So, I in general I I love aesthetize their whole collection by color.
Maybe that's like completely in the aesthetic direction.
It's like disregard for function. And you got you got wealth next to terraforming Mars, you know.
I'm not there. I'm not there. But
okay. So So we were different there. And then um we made a couple changes. So we changed the shelf heights a little bit.
We're able to fit uh I learned that you can turn a box. Uh
yeah, that that nonsquare boxes do in fact have two different lengths.
Well, it's just you naturally think to have the like the the long side visible.
I guess you do anyway.
You save space when you don't. Um, and overall the How' you feel? I mean, cuz you've I got these shelves and I know you're eventually
I'm thinking I'll probably get them.
We may maybe we'll have a similar video to this although you probably won't be out there. Absolutely. How did this work out?
Um, so just like your thoughts between the best and the Alex cuz most people have
and I think I think the are cheaper.
Yeah, it's definitely cheaper. Um, but yeah, I think I like
I can guarantee it's cheaper, right?
I think I like the wider shelves. I do really like being able to customize shelf height because like we got the little minis. I don't know how well you can see them, but those
we'll throw some B-roll.
The roll the row for those really small ones is really nice. Um, not feeling like you have to stack things on top of each other to get your uh use of the space. So,
and we can fit a game like Mage Knight in.
Yes. that you cuz there were several games that we just you couldn't even you couldn't even fit it all on couldn't you just
couldn't be done be done but
overall I like how it looks and now Ryan we got a game yeah we got to play something mom here thank you for watching thanks for joining us on this assembly of the game collection and we have all sorts of other videos on the channel of us chatting about board games the plays the fun that we have and uh we would love for you to join us. So uh we got another video here. You can check that one out.
